Well, you wanted newbies to try at something so I will steal your thread idea and write another to get it going
Something that kinda irks me is “theme joints” Like a New york bar in Paris. Yacht clubs in Asheville, Mountain bars in Wilmington, faux Caribbean anywhere etc…
Hookah bars without hash....
Presently, I am irked at having to ban Nam Vet again and again. Also, McDonald’s commercials. I get it—they sell to every creed, color and gender—but it’s still just a cheap burger and a chicken sandwich they ripped off from Chik-Fil-a.
So, Steve—seeing as how you now live in Spartanburg—have you been to the Beacon Drive-In yet?
I payed a visit to the world-famous Beacon last month, and even though I live less than a mile from it, I doubt I’ll be going back anytime soon. There’s nothing wrong with the place, and if I was wanting to double my cholesterol level in a single meal, I’d definitely pay it another visit. I’d rather save my visits for a special occasion, like just before I get my teeth cleaned.
It’s funny, but the only thing people seem to think of when I mention that I’ve moved to Spartanburg is that diner.
It’s like Atlanta. There’s 50,000 Waffle Houses in that town and the only thing that people ask you is “have you been to Little Five Points?”
Beacon in Spartanburg but it’s Junior’s Grill in Atlanta.
Do I have to teach you guys how to be Southern?
In Asheville it used to be the Hot Spot in Biltmore ... now, the jury’s out ... George’s Deli on the New Leicester Highway is not bad. Or try Nick’s in North Asheville (now that HB’s is closed).
I like themed places, but I agree that one state using another’s theming is pretty weak. I’d much rather see them do something more creative and fun that has a more local flavor.

You guys really don’t get this, do you?
Ralph, you’re not good at this. It was called the Hot Shot in Biltmore. And it’s food paled in comparison to the Silver Dollar.
Wow
Boy did you folks get off on a tangent.......
In Cullowhee it is Cullowhee cafe, used to be Speedys pizza but I outgrew it....
Man, do I miss the late night breakfasts at the Hot Shot, and the older lady who would welcome everybody southern style…
I know it’s the Hot Shot, Jason ... I ate there for more years than you’ve been alive ... I make one typo per million words. Thanks for finding that one.
What about Burnsville? I go there a lot and have yet to find a good place to eat?
