MySpace? Who needs it?

Having been a somewhat early adopter of MySpace (and Friendster, before that), I’m wondering if anyone else here on the forums actually, you know, uses the thing. Mostly, I use MySpace for checking out bands, and it’s awesome for that, but for social networking? Not so much.

And what about the MySpace alternatives? Anyone out there using TalkAsheville? (I had an account, but have appear to have lost access after their revamp.)

Thoughts?

According to all the teenagers I hang out with (two) MySpace is now considered “so middle school” and all the cool people are now on Facebook.

That’s true. It’s kind of like how Friendster is considered sooooo Gen-X by the MySpace crowd. My wife swears by Facebook, but I just can’t generate enough interest in the thing to make another profile.

Eh.  Most of my friends are on myspace...part of the reason I joined.  Saves on the phone bill and/or cellphone minutes and can leave someone a message at 3am without worrying about waking them up.  Now I mostly use it for discovering new music, but the networking still serves its purpose.

I mainly use MySpace for listening to music and for sending out bulletins regarding local music. I also use it to read blogs and bulletins from local Asheville bands. I find it extremely useful for those 3 purposes.

It’s fast, easy to use, consistent (most of the time).

The only drawback I find is the spam comments and spam friend requests but those are very easily deleted.

I dabbled with Facebook, but never found it useful for my purposes.  It’s probably great for communicating with friends...but I use regular my gmail for that purpose.

I also spend time reading MX forums, MX Comments, and TalkAsheville.  At present, I dont have the neccessary time to post to these sites very often, but I read them often and hope to find more time to post in the future.

I really enjoy the Listening Party concept and hope it will grow in popularity.  FOr the most part, the discussions/comments there have been more civil and rational than comments on other topics.

I use myspace to pick up girls with awesome looking photos. It turns out that they are usually fat and posing with their cameras held above their heads at about a 90 degree angle, which makes me believe that all women are inherently dishonest.

Why yes I have a blog. What? You want to see my underwear? That’s over the line, sir.

Why limit that to women? All nature is inherently dishonest. Our genes ... they lie!

My jeans don’t lie. They say on the label that I’m Husky.
