Just shut up and sign up for the damn thing already. Are any of us really free?
I don’t even have the $4.99 set-up fee or I might just sign up.
Or I could just host a server on the connection I have now. Is it fast? Nope. But it’s free and unlikely to be noticed.
(The previous statement is in no way an indication that the poster has any knowledge of how or the ability or desire to in any way, shape or form to violate the TOS with any current or past ISP (Internet Service Provider, or as the locals say “where my Internet Protocol IP tells google what ads to send to me here in the outback”), nor is it meant to imply that actually violating those TOS is, in point of fact, preferable to legitimately hosting a service with a hosting company as opposed to doing it on one’s home service. After all, it isn’t like we overpay our various ISPs for crappy bandwidth and for usage restrictions and everyone knows that they have very good reason for blocking port 80 and/or for selling their customer base out to the RIAA, the NSA or to whomever else takes a flaming shit in front of a FISA court).
If your ISP finds out about it, they will take away your IP (unless they are the same thing..)
Even “if” they were to have found out (assuming I ever did this, of course) then they would be hard pressed to explain how running a simple webserver is any worse for their network than filesharing which is openly tolerated (or, at least, not actively shut down).
There is really no logical reason to block port 80 on the crappy upload speeds offered by American broadband, as most people have already put enough malware on their computers to gum up the pipes forever.
/rant off

You make a good point (particularly if the suppositional site you* speculatively hosted on your own putative server gets as few hits as the ones I pay to host on other people’s servers) but don’t blame me if you theoretically did this and you hypothetically got your InternetServiceProtocol address taken away regardless, .
(*The terms “you” and “your” and any derivation thereof, now, and hereafter referring to any imagined person for purposes of mere illustration of notional conjecture, and not, in fact, you.)

I never said I was doing it, now or in the past. My internet IP protocol address server thing is just fine and it can be used to tell you how I pay my water bill. I ran a finger query to tell me what backbone my connection is on.

Good point again. After discussing the matter with an attorney, I have edited my post. I suggest you do the same for any quotes, attributions or other references to said post.
