Maybe, one headed by Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee?

It’s possible, although I’d say it’s more likely that we’ll see a division between the Libertarian-leaning Republicans and the Evangelical Christian conservative ones. Particularly now that there’s a black guy heading the GOP, which will probably scare off a good number of the far-right members.

That sounds a lot like the old Republican party to me.

I’ve said this before, but I would support and old-school fiscal conservative.  My hope is that Palin wins the nomination in 2012, loses badly, and that will be the final nail in the coffin for the social part of that party.

She and Huckabee or Romney will win in a landslide because amnesiac americans will blame the dems and obama for the economy.

Or not.

Red & Blue, blue or red -

They are both privately controlled parties that are centered in elitist control tactics.

We are consistently hearing about how “we” need to overcome bipartisanship, yet every election’s debates are controlled by corporations who will only allow specific questions & topics.  Perot was the only person to ever make it into a debate back in 1992, but he had to buy his way into every aspect of that campaign.  Doesn’t really sound like a philosophy we should encourage in the ‘land of the free.’

Both parties have been long corrupted and need a good overhaul, but there are deep pockets with long fingers that are entrenched into this way of working.

Why not a little more purple in our lives?

of course the republican party will return and it will be a rehashing of the same old players ...

The usual suspects will form the same coalition as much out of fear as anything ... they are well aware that if they don’t stay united to some degree they will be marginalized ... as long as they stay on board thy can get their token issues paraded every so often and they keep their leadership jobs ....

the republican party is looking for a younger charismatic intelligent person to make a run at 2012 .... Palin is the death knell for the party and I am sure most smart loyal republicans sense it ... They would love an articulate woman from California that has southern roots or has a southern running mate ...

I agree with JBo. I think both parties are hopelessly corrupt. Our government is run by the well paid employees, the politicians, of corporate and military interests. Tom Daschles appointment as Sec of HHS is a perfect example of how Washington really works. Maybe this should go in the How’s Obama Doing thread. Obama this sucks!

http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2009/02/01/daschle/index.html

Until we get the money out of the election process nothing will ever change. The amount of money needed to get elected is obscene. It can only lead to conflict of interest.

I have flung this idea out into the universe before and I am gonna fling it again. What we need is the Election Channel and Election.org. Every politician applying for an elected job from dog catcher to the president will be required to follow a structured format of debates, position statements, bios, ect, that will only be aired on the Election Channel.org which can include radio. There will be absolutely no political advertising. No 501C advocacy political advertising either. All candidates may speak in public to any group they care to. Film of public speaking can be used on the Election Channel.org.

There is plenty of room on the net and airwaves to require carriers to carry these broadcasts without interrupting their other content. Election cycles can be kept to a six to nine month time frame only. The media technology needed to produce politicians job applications will be provided at no cost to them. This service can be regionalized so that when I log on or turn on the TV, my local ballot candidates will be what I have access to first. Job applicants for elected office will continue to come from the current or expanded party system.

Citizens will be able to get full information on the job applicants for elected office 24/7. The Election Channel.org can have advertising to help pay for some of the cost of production. This will allow corporate America to show they really do care about America, not just their profit margin.

This is a kernel of an idea. It will need to be fleshed out.

When I have flung out this idea before, I always get the Free Speech objection. No one will censor what any job applicant for elected office has to say. They may speak in public all they want. No advertising is the point. That will remove a huge chunk of the money needed to get elected.

Until we get the money out of the election system, nothing will change.

It just means that won’t go down as a lasting black mark on his score card.

I still see Romney with either Palin or Huckabee. Although the last few days has me wondering about Cheney.

My hunch on Cheney is that he’s been given X days to live and now he’s trying for a legacy.
