I agree with JBo. I think both parties are hopelessly corrupt. Our government is run by the well paid employees, the politicians, of corporate and military interests. Tom Daschles appointment as Sec of HHS is a perfect example of how Washington really works. Maybe this should go in the How’s Obama Doing thread. Obama this sucks!

Until we get the money out of the election process nothing will ever change. The amount of money needed to get elected is obscene. It can only lead to conflict of interest.
I have flung this idea out into the universe before and I am gonna fling it again. What we need is the Election Channel and Election.org. Every politician applying for an elected job from dog catcher to the president will be required to follow a structured format of debates, position statements, bios, ect, that will only be aired on the Election Channel.org which can include radio. There will be absolutely no political advertising. No 501C advocacy political advertising either. All candidates may speak in public to any group they care to. Film of public speaking can be used on the Election Channel.org.
There is plenty of room on the net and airwaves to require carriers to carry these broadcasts without interrupting their other content. Election cycles can be kept to a six to nine month time frame only. The media technology needed to produce politicians job applications will be provided at no cost to them. This service can be regionalized so that when I log on or turn on the TV, my local ballot candidates will be what I have access to first. Job applicants for elected office will continue to come from the current or expanded party system.
Citizens will be able to get full information on the job applicants for elected office 24/7. The Election Channel.org can have advertising to help pay for some of the cost of production. This will allow corporate America to show they really do care about America, not just their profit margin.
This is a kernel of an idea. It will need to be fleshed out.
When I have flung out this idea before, I always get the Free Speech objection. No one will censor what any job applicant for elected office has to say. They may speak in public all they want. No advertising is the point. That will remove a huge chunk of the money needed to get elected.
Until we get the money out of the election system, nothing will change.
