On many occasions we have observed our Rat Terrier seemingly reading our minds.  Is this just our imagination or can they really read our thoughts somehow? The following link is to several articles regarding this subject.  What do you think?

Care to site any personal examples, Tom?

I don’t know about telepathy, but my dog definitely responds to sign language / hand signals better than verbal commands most of the time. It’s like she has to pay closer attention, so she’s more likely to react the way I want her to.

The question has often come up when our rat terrier quite obviously knows in advance that we are planning to GO somewhere.  Today she suddenly got into her travel mode well before any mention of going anywhere was made.  Still, this is not a scientific study by any stretch.  I am always skeptical betting that somebody has given a signal that she’s picked up on as she is certainly exceptionally good at that.  My wife, however, insists she knows.

I do firmly believe that thoughts travel via electrical impulses.  There are just too many examples, occasions when one of us is thinking about a friend and the friend calls or visa versa.  I also firmly believe human brains have untapped abilities, indeed Einstein was heard to suggest that even a genius uses only about 5% of the brain’s power. Animals clearly have an array of sensory perceptions that dwarf mankind so I find it likely that yes, they can read minds within the limits of their vocabularies which, by the way, can be quite extensive.  Perhaps they can also sense intentions.

The first article on the page source I posted deals with some of these questions.  He reports studies that indicate the ability may vary according to breed. All the dogs we’ve owned have shown a degree of intelligence but this critter is by far the most alert, inquisitive and interactive of any. She definitely seems more than a step above our previous canine friends.

They are just keen watchers.

Also, my dog hates it when I put cottage cheese on my unmentionable parts. I mean, he loves cheese, but he hates when I put it “there”.

I would imagine that there are a few animal “savants” out there with heightened abilities to navigate certain facets of our existence as living beings, just as there are some humans with heightened abilities. It certainly seems possible.

Dogs are generally loathsome servile beasts who eat one anothers poo and yap ceaselessly at every little disturbance (except the following breeds: Collie, German Shepard, Newfoundland, Saint Bernard).

Dogs also work with cops, so im inclined not to trust em.

I’ve never heard of a drug-sniffing cat, though.

It’s people who are loathsome creatures not dogs. People pollute the planet with crap dogs, even if they are mind readers, could not even imagine. The list of offenses perpetrated by two leggeds against nature and each other reads like a horror story of mammoth proportions.

If you can start the day without caffeine,
If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when loved ones are too busy to give you time,
If you can overlook when people take things out on you,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can do all these things, ...............

Then you are probably the family dog.

May I suggest that instead of asking posters about facts use Google.  Most of us do not have the numbers at our finger tips and should not be asked to serve as librarians.  Just a suggestion.

I ask you folks, is this the kind of behavior a moderator should exhibit.  I recommend, dare Administrator, that you remove this child from such heady responsibilities. He’s an out and out baiter with a special target painted on my back, no doubt because he has issues with his daddy.  <chuckle>
