New French Bar offers smoking indoors in the bar area after 9 pm.  Back dining room is non-smoking although there always seems to be at least one douchebag per night who thinks he’s rebellious by trying to smoke back there.  You can smoke in the courtyard and the walkway any time; however, the owners disapprove of ashing or leaving butts on the ground, so use the flowerpots or an ashtray.

Cigarette smoking is for people with tiny-penis issues.

Smoke em while you can dowtown boys and girls! The Nanny State rears its ugly head again. Maybe the NC legislature could clean up our air and water while they’re at it?

My pipe dream is that cell phones in all forms will be banned from public places and relegated to outdoor areas after conclusive scientific evidence appears that they cause second hand brain cancer. Keeping my finger crossed here.

Sorry boatrocker, pipe dreams are banned within state boundaries.  Please keep your dreams out of hippie receptacles.

This is where the small percentage of Libertarian in me comes out. Let restaurants and bars decide to accommodate smokers if they want to.  That’s all there is to it.

People are well aware of the dangers, and if they choose to smoke or be around smokers, then they are choosing to accept the consequences.

I’m kind of with you on this, Will. If a bar wants to cater to smokers, it should be their call. At this point, people know the risks, and they should be responsible for their own actions. I’m all for taxing cigarettes and putting warning on packs, but it really shouldn’t be the government’s role to tell people what to do with their bodies. No one is making anyone go to a smoke-filled bar or restaurant, nor is anyone being made to work at one.

(For the record, I’ve never been a smoker.)
