i think this might look good:

Premieres in April on HBO
From David Simon, creator of “The Wire.” That’s all discerning TV viewers need to know, really. “The Wire” was the best series of the last decade and Simon has the kind of talent that can only get sharper (and maybe angrier) with age. But if you need to know more: “Treme” is set in New Orleans three months after Hurricane Katrina, when people are just starting to come back. The title refers to one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods, which is where much of its music and dance originated. Several of the main characters seem to be jazz musicians. The cast includes Wendell Pierce (Bunk on “The Wire”), Steve Zhan, Khandi Alexander and Melissa Leo (“Frozen River”). But as in “The Wire,” the real stars will be the social issues Simon tackles.

Seeing as how The Wire is my favorite thing put on film ever, I’m excited about this. Thanks for the heads up.

I lived in Baltimore for a year, and from everything I’ve seen, the show is, unfortunately, very accurate.

Personally, I’m a fan of 30 rock and Dexter.

Despite all of my efforts to hate it, I watched Lost recently, and ended up running through all 5 seasons in 4 days.  ...I need something better to do with my time.  But anyway, it is one show that I will actually watch as it airs, and not wait to netflix it, or watch it online.

All five seasons of LOST in just four days? Is that even possible with pauses to eat and sleep and other stuff?

That’s a great way to keep the meandering plotlines fresh in your memory though, and doing so just before the final season is good timing. I think I’ll DVR both the new episode on Feb. 2 AND the inevitable recap preceding it. I still won’t watch any show live, as I have become allergic to commercial breaks.

The chicks are hot. The dialogue is pleasantly stupid and unchallengeable. Requires little attention to follow the plot. Nice cleavage. And demons and white lighters.

Does else anyone notice how carrie from king of queens seems to fluctuate dramatically in weight from episode to episode?

Recently a good show was Chef Academy.  It stared a 4 star Michelin chef…lots of simple yet useful tips from a top notch teacher.

MADMEN , DAMAGES

I watched the first three episodes of Madmen and really couldn’t get into it. It had a nice visual style, but I just didn’t like any of the characters or care what happened to any of them. Maybe it gets better, but I just couldn’t see what all the hype was about.

You had to be there….the re-visit of that time period is spot on.  The inner office shenanigans, the boozing / smoking / whoreing around, all very realistic.  I never tire of the opening graphics &  themesong.  The imagery of what’s actually happening in the storyline, is symbolically expressed so well in those graphics.
It was interesting to see how the tobacco company & the agency dealt with the cancer warning legislation on cigarettes. I remember when the warnings began appearing & how we pooh-poohed that warning at the time (youthful invulnerability run amok). Almost everyone smoked back then. Movies in the 50’s made it chic and there was lots of active smoking on TV.

Fascinating to see how ad agencies manipulate.

For indulging my wickedness, I like Dexter.

I’m hoping “The Brotherhood” returns to Showtime.

hey mat,

didnt you say you and missus cat liek to watch csi and stuff like that?  you ever see the one with bastardized plot line of the ELF and the ALF and they called them the ‘?

Just, wow. Such hackneyed plots. If life was so simple.

/takes head out of rubber cement bag, takes deep breath…

My dearest mr catastrophe,

the other evening, while staying up late and smoking some odorous herbs, i came across an episode of csi (or one of the many similar shows, but i think it was one of the csis) with a plot line that was a very comically simplistic representation of the ELF actions against the resort in vail, suv dealerships, blahblah blah. they called the ‘the purists’, and it was just SO bad, and i remembered you said you and your missus catastrophe liked to watch that show and i was wondering if you had seen the specific episode i am referring to? Some girl blew up her dads house cuz he was disposing of computer parts illegally in china and hurting little yellow babies.

I don’t believe we watched any first-run episodes and we haven’t watched CSI at all in months. So, nope, I can’t help you on this one.

I guess you are uptight about the portrayal of ELF-esque eco-anarchists?

if you saw it you’d know what i mean. just a typically black and white tv plot.
