What cheezefest movie would you like to see remade?

For the last few years, I’ve been hoping for a remake of ultra-cheezy “gang” action flick The Warriors. It’s not so much that the original film is flawed, but rather that it doesn’t live up to the source material. The book it’s based on, The Warriors by Sol Yurick, is a modern retelling of Xenophon’s Anabasis, and it’s not corny at all. It’s also about the youth-gang mindset of the mid-1960s (that is, before the days when gangs were all about selling drugs and shooting each other) and other weighty themes. The movie, while perfectly entertaining in its own right, shares only the basic plot with the book.

When Rockstar Games released their video game adaptation of the movie a few years ago, there were rumors that a modern update of the film—perhaps with more of Yurick’s original storyline (the Warriors were all black, for one thing, and most were in their mid-teens) in the tale. Last I heard, Tony Scott (Ridley Scott’s brother, and director of mostly good flicks like Top Gun, True Romance, Enemy of the State, is set to helm the production. I’m cautiously optimistic.

What about you? Any cheezy flicks you’d like to see remade? Are there any notable films that you thought could have been truly wonderful if they’d been handled by a better production team?

Gotta say I have never put the phrase “mostly good” and Tony Scott in the same sentence. No.

I’m being relative. The only movie of his I’ve ever really liked was True Romance, and that’s largely because of the Tanantino’s script and the cast more than anything he did as a director. But he has made a number of films that weren’t horrible, at least for the mass-market crowd. What I’m getting at is that he might not ruin the film, unlike a “director” like Uwe Boll or Joel Schumacher, who tend to fecalize everything they touch. (Maybe I’m being too hard on Schumacher. But he nearly ruined Batman!)

I wouldn’t mind a big budget remake of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!  But I am pretty sure I am the only one.

I think remaking DUNE with the director that originally planned on filming it, Alejandro Jodorowsky, would be really cool.

I’d like to see that, too. And you’re not alone. I mean, they made at least two sequels to the first one, not to mention the semi-popular ‘90 cartoon series.

The Sci-Fi miniseries wasn’t completely bad, at least if you look past the low budget. I’d definitely like to see someone do justice to the book, though.

If not a complete remake, then at least a sequel to the original “Xanadu” that would focus more on the empire of Kubla Khan this time and less on roller disco. Call it “Xanadu II: Beyond Pleasure Dome.”

Tron

First of all, Tron is NOT a cheezefest.
Second, not quite a remake, but there is a sequel:

In any case, I’m completely against remakes in any way. If it’s a book that’s been badly done in the past and someone wants to do it justice, then fine. But these stupid reboots are ####### ridiculous.
Which leads me to…

#### Star Trek.

Seriously dude, have you seen the new clips? It’s like a CW production on a high budget.
