Just a Spartanburg update: A few days ago it was announced that a new medical school was coming to downtown Spartanburg. That’s three new college campuses opening in the next two years. One of the colleges is slated to open in like two months, the other two by the end of 2011. There’s a major growth spurt happening here at the moment.

And just to make some of you irritated, here’s a sampling of the available homes in downtown for under $50k. Several are within two blocks of where they just announced the new college will be, which is within three blocks of a Farmers Market, the RJ Rockers brewery and tap room, and the new “Grain District” redevelopment initiative. If you were up for some DIY and willing to gentrify a bit, some are currently priced at less than $15k.
