Exactly. I was more thinking of an electrical spark—an arc light bridging the gap between two contacts like in James Burke’s “Connections”—but the idea is more-or-less the same. The Spartanburg Spark project is really my attempt to create a catalyst to assist a bunch of projects and movements that were already happening when I got here, many of which seemed to be unaware of each other.
There are so many cool little things in this town, but there’s all happening in relative obscurity. But that won’t last, I’m sure.
There was this event yesterday called “Show Up For Spartanburg,” which amounted to a pep rally for people who want downtown to not suck so hard anymore. It was POURING rain—flash flood type stuff—and still around 70 people showed up at Morgan Square to basically say “Hurrah, Spartanburg.” Pretty cool.
Incidentally, the first Upstate Pride March in Spartanburg was a HUGE success. 500 or so marchers showed up, when the organizers were expecting perhaps 50. Very low protester turnout.
Steve I’d like to encourage you to come live in Asheville..I consulted my astrologer/podiatrist..and she/he said the future of Spartanburg is not as bright as Asheville..
Something about crystals. Cherokee spirit guides and the vortex of the ancient wisdom of the kudzo gods.. Not wanting to rain on your parade dude..you just needed a reality check..
I lived in Asheville for 15 years, and clearly it’s not what it was. Too many people using those crystals, I’m sad to report.
Spartanburg’s growing nexus is clearly the result of the new shift in ley-line alignments as the Age of Aquarius begins. They’ve shifted down the mountain, you see, and now cross in Spartanburg. All the hip new agers know this.
That maybe true grasshopper..but when I moved here I brought the Buddha field ( google it) with me…the streams of cosmic energy radiating from my root chakra trumps all previous vortex realignments…
you can see me on Friday at the drum circle..I have that sobering “old man dancing thang going on” that young guys look at and think “please ole great spirit please don’t let me end up like THAT “...
The nice thing about the Bizzle is it is too grimey for new-agey carpetbagger types (To borrow and redefine a phrase, since i dont just mean new ennglanders). It is the true forntier, and will be years before it is overtaken by over-excited people attempting to co-opt it after only just a few months there.
