My friend’s 10 year old son just got mauled by the neighbor’s mastif a couple of hours ago. His scalp was ripped off his head.

This is not a joke?

no Yuck. Unfortunately this is most assuredly not a joke. The family is at the hospital right now.

All of us failed to match our dreams of perfection. So I rate us on the basis of our splendid failure to do the impossible.

Ouch. Mastiffs are serious dogs. I’m sure we’ll be reading about this tomorrow.

I want to thank all who have contributed to this thread..Aggressive dogs has become a serious problem and it is important that we gather our energy and communicate our concerns to those that enact laws to protect us..If you have an aggressive dog or know some one who has one, please express your concerns..We deserve a safe place to live without being afraid that a beast will harm us..Our children should not live in fear…

Keep boarding ..it works..

I think there is a clear line ...

To teach the dog or the dog’s owner?

That’s it, for the owner. The dog’s been conditioned to attack, and
that’s crazy. We bull breed owners cower in fear of being, once again,
shunned, even though some owners are responsible people, training
and not setting the dog up for failure.

Damn, that’s just bad. Not only the dog’s dying, which is horrendous, but that the dog was mauled.

I’d like to ask, at the risk of being beaten down, and attacked with a tack hammer, what the provocation was?

I don’t know if this thread helped..but there have been less dog attacks recently..who knows thoughts have power..

Richey, maybe it’s all about educating the pet-owners, much to PETA’s chagrin since we’re not allowed to “own” companion animals. Read all about the chaining of dogs, and can’t believe it! It’s effing 2009, and we still allow people, stupid people, to chain their companion pets OUTSIDE? How horrible.

I own 2 dogs, both of them are in the “demon” breed category. We have a fenced in yard, and our dogs don’t go out of the front door w/out leashes. People who disregard leash laws are putting their pet ownership, as well as their and others personal safety at risk. Potentially risky for the pet as well.

I must say however, that the Pit is a very misunderstood breed. If properly cared for, they are among the most loyal breeds in terms of love for humans. Other dogs, not so much.

People forget how, despite being a proponent for potential alcohol abuse and liver failure, Spuds Mackenzie was a harmless party animal.

more effective than doing nothing except complaining about it.

I agree that is HORRIBLE that an APD officer would be walking her OWN dog in the city limits off a leash, and it attacks another dog!!

Wow, this is just so typical of the way Asheville police handle ANY crime in our area, unless it’s drunk driving..
Do you remember the officer’s name? It should of been on their uniform! What kind of dog did they have?

I agree! I see ALOT of dog owners who are SO irresponsible.. they take their dogs to parks and let them run off leash, so that if you come to the park with your dog, then you are taking a BIG chance even taking them for a walk on the leash! Then they refuse or get belligerent when you ask them to put their dogs on a leash.

I had my dog attacked by this huge standard poodle at the lake in Black Mountain one year. It cost over $125 to patch up my dog’s ear, after he was attacked by the poodle.. When I asked the owners of the poodle to show me that their dog had a rabies tag, they started going off on me and screaming at me, claiming they’d have me arrested! Never did they bother to apologize and the police did not seem to care either my dog was attacked at a local park!

I have seen a woman in Bi-Lo’s once a long time ago.. She supposedly was “disabled” and had this huge German Shepherd with her in the grocery store. Well, the dog started to ACT OUT and got really aggressive and starting barking at people. I have NEVER seen a dog for the disabled that behaved that badly, let alone act even the least bit aggressively!

I have been bitten by German Shepherds when I was young and I don’t trust this breed! The manager of the store did not want to seem to do ANYTHING about it either!

I have also been in stores like Home Depot where someone had a dog, yes, it was on a leash, but it was obvious that the dog was not the least bit friendly to OTHER dogs and wanted to start a fight with a much smaller dog someone had brought in.

Those kind of people really bother me, as they just do NOT seem to have any compassion or regard for other people and their pets. The owner acted like it was some big JOKE that her dog wanted to fight other dogs in the store.

I have brought my dog into stores, but if he started to be aggressive, he’d be hauled out of there immediately!

I make it a point to NOT ever get an aggressive breed, but other people seem to take some kind of odd satisfaction out of scaring the daylights out of other people with their dogs, sadly enough.
