So, Wikipedia recently banned the Church of Scientology from editing the article about the controversial faith after repeated warnings and an arbitration process ...

The collaborative online encyclopedia Wikipedia has banned the Church of Scientology from editing the site. The Register reports Wikipedia’s Arbitration Committee, or ArbCom, voted 10 to 0 in favor of the ban, which takes effect immediately.

Evidently, the Church had “deleted well sourced information that was unflattering, and there were times when they insulted other editors in a manner that would reflect poorly upon any religion.”

Meanwhile, in France, the religion is on trial for fraud, and may lose their protected status, something that has already happened in the U.K. (later, they were recognized as a not-for-profit) and is viewed as a commerical entity in Germany, is banned in Greece and has failed to qualify for protected religious or not-for-profit status in many other countries, including Canada.

What do you think: Merit-worthy religion, dangerous fringe cult or faith-cloaked scam?

Yes, true believers, Beck is one of them. Not quite as strange as Prince going Jehovah’s Witness but that’s a different story.

From what I’ve read the whole “church” of Scientology thing started as a bet between L. Ron Hubbard and Robert Heinlen back in the golden age of sci fi when both authors tried to start a cult like following. Heinlen didn’t have the success with “Stranger in a Strange Land” but Hubbard’s “Dianetics” series spawned numerous gullible rubes who bought into the whole “thetans” idea. Nowadays it looks like only rich Hollywood actors can afford true salvation via Scientology.

The movie “Bowfinger” had a hilarious scene which takes a stab at Scientology. Steve Martin goes to visit Eddie Murphy at a facility called “Mindhead”, and obvious play on Scientology churches.

And Juliette Lewis, Jason Lee, Nancy Cartwright, Giovani Ribisi, Laura Prepon (the hot redhead from That 70’s Show). I’m sure there are a few I’m forgetting.

OK so I’m the only moron who actually was a member of the Scientology Church,..

I still can’t get off their mailing list..they won’t give up on me.. The SC is really a lot more complex than most people realize. and has certain positive programs that in my opinion could be assimilated into our culture.. no use in throwing out the baby with the bath water.. First of all Hubbard was a very smart nut with an amazing imagination.. he assimilated Freudian psychology, Military order, bio-feedback and all sorts of interesting sci-fi stuff to create a religion.. much like most religions.. the big difference is his use of pseudo science to entrain his followers into giving him huge amounts of cash to train them to be CLEAR (a term used for a person who does not let their reactive mind (unconscious) to control their thoughts or behavior..) pretty compelling sci-fi… Travolta and Cruise aren’t total morons.. their must be some value to be had,,( after all they’re both pilots)  ,and here’s some of the value I got out it..

There are workshops, classes, levels that are part of raising your consciousness to clear.

The Communication Workshop ( the first class) is a great system to use when helping folks to really learn to understand the deep levels of communication and I wish we had cool workshops like this in High School with out all the SC Mumbo Jumbo. The reason a lot of actors get into SC is the invaluable training they receive in helping them memorize words and communicate them with depth. Their are workshops on how to learn, how to heal, how to love, how to harness unwanted emotions,  how to elevate your thinking to where you’re not controlled by your subconscious. If you take out the nutty Hubbard sci-fi embellishments and there are many.. you’d have some very useful tools.

Basically Freud had some similar goals with psycho-analysis.. liberation from the unconscious. That’s pretty much what Dianetics is.. watered down Freud, With a little Sci-fi mumbo jumbo. After all Hubbard was a very successful sci-fi writer.

The reason I left SC was the weird Hubbard sci-fi stuff..and the more you learn about SC the weirder it gets.. much like the Mormons..Josef Smith was the Ron Hubbard of his day. I love sci-fi.. I just like it in books and on the screen and not governing my everyday.. If you are a performer and want to have the ability to communicate on a deep level ( and who doesn’t) the communication workshop for 50 bucks ain’t a bad use of your time and money..just don’t get sucked into the SC vortex or you’ll end up a poor robotic servant of the SC..

Have we not come to such an impasse in the modern world that we must love our enemies - or else? The chain reaction of evil - hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars - must be broken, or else we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.

Dude, give me 50 bucks and a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black and I can come up with a way better religion in an evening.

But can you get Beck?

Or, at the very least, Jason Ross Martin?
