Anyone know what what happened to the Walk In Theater this year? Also wondering the reasons for the ultimate demise of WestFest from a few years ago?

I have lived in and out of Asheville since 1993 but my wife and I just bought our first house in West Asheville and we would love to see these traditions re-instated. We would definitely commit our energy to see them happen!

Thanks,
mountainmojo

I can answer for one of the events and speculate on the other…

We love helping to put on Walk In Theater, but last year there were diminished returns for what we were putting into it.  Basically, people were taking it for granted.  Fortunately, absence makes the heart grow fonder, so expect them to be started back up in 2010.  I know that the Wedge has started showing movies outside and also we are helping the Admiral each first Sunday of the month during their pig roast.

I believe that what happened with Westfest was that they could not get enough volunteers.  I know each one was a success, and there is talk about resurrecting it or some other big event for West Asheville.

Marc,

Thanks for your insight! i am glad to hear that the Walk-in will be back in 2010 and that some WestFest type of event is being talked about. Do you know how one could get involved with some of these initiatives? Is WABA and onhaywood.com still active?

Meanwhile I will get my film/community fix at the Wedge and Admiral nights!

Thanks!
