This is a for those of you young bucks and buckerettes who seek fame..
I am a direct descendant of Elvis..I have watched every movie he ever made.. learned to play the guitar..joined bands..was a touring musician for 15 years…I was moderately successful…opened for some legends… Had a couple tunes on the radio.
What have I learned?
1. Most of those folks that seek fame have a black whole of low self esteem that no amount of fame will fill.
2.Even if you get some fame ..it isn’t that much fun.. people come and try to talk to you while you’re trying to eat breakfast..I hate that.
3.Fame is fleeting..if you do get some kinda fame ..it fades for most folks pretty quick..
4. Some very able humans get sucked into the fame illusion…and waste their lives ..when this society needs it’s able people to take care of some of the real problems we have as a society..ie healthcare..renewable energy..ect…
5.The market is saturated..with very good musicians, actors, painters..ect…if these are hobbies fine.. if you want to seek real success doing these things.. think hard..
The walk of fame is littered with sad stories of suicide, drug abuse, and wasted life..This phenomenon of world wide fame is relatively new.. the mass media has created a weird illusion that famous people are happier, and cooler and have more fun..not really so..

Why are you equating “real success” with fame? In my little world I have several friends who are “really successful” writers, yet they can walk around anonymously with no problem.
“...the image is one thing and the human being is another…it’s very hard to live up to an image.”
-From the press conference prior to his record-breaking Madison Square Garden shows in New York City, 1972.
Hmmm…so is the walk of everyday, non-famous people. Not sure what your point of this post is. To discourage people from trying to be famous?
There’s a flip side to this thought, it’s fun to be famous sometimes…I don’t have to go into it..the entertainment mags do enough of that..I guess what I’m saying is.
.there’s a lot of fame hungry youths out there..especially in Asheville and I thoroughly enjoy the music in this town,,but..the fame gods swallow young innocents and spit there bones in the mental hospitals, prisons, rehab centers, and grave yards..
becareful songbirds..life is a long
road..don’t use up all your chips on a roll of the dice called fame…
I was not aware that Steve Shanafelt was actually a celebrity (I guess he changed his name) who lurks amongst these forums for his amusement..The following graphic was emailed to me anonymously..sorry to out you Steve.. it was bound to happen sooner or later..
In 1969, on this day June 22nd singer-actress Judy Garland died in London at age 47.
What a great tragedy. So much to give..crushed by the star making machinery..I’m not sure Judy sought fame.. her mom was pushing all her girls toward show business..she just rose to the top because she had the talent in spades…
