I’ve added a free device available for Firefox and IE called WOT (Web of Trust)  It’s one more layer of protection against the multitude of threats facing web browsing.

It’s not a bad plugin, from what I hear.

It is, if anything, over cautious but I believe you can create a white list or something of that nature and, of course, you always have the option of overriding the warning.

I also use Adblock plus and Better Privacy from this list:  http://www.mywot.com/en/blog/162-surf-safer-and-smarter-on-firefox-collections

If you want the ultimate in Firefox security, install NoScript. It can be annoying at first, until you approve the sites you visit the most. But it will protect you on any site you go to, not allowing any scripts on the page to run unless you approve them.

NoScript provides more preemptive, active browsing protection than anything else out there right now, and will protect you from drive-by-download attacks, cookie stealing scripts, cross-site scripting attacks, and more.

Oh yeah, like Firefox, it is free.

This AM also on mine if I can decipher what to do with it. Honestly I hate it when the box lies.  Yesterday it would not work and said incompatible with 3.5.  I’m just not certain here what to do with it?????

I trust you are using Firefox, right? Just go to Tools, click on ad ons, not WOT.  Hi-light and select uninstall.  Don’t think you’re into IE but if so go to TOOLS, manage addons and proceed from there.

Firefox has a spellcheck? is it more accurate than the one on this system?

No, I installed adblocker and WOT after i read this thread, and ever since then, i cant log out of here, and cant properly shut down firefox without a whole song and dance…

maybe it installed wrong, but this is why i dont even accept most updates. It seems like every time i install something new, it just causes a new problem…

i’m really interested in Google Chrome, but scared of it for the same reasons…

Chrome is wonderful. I’m using it right now. As I’ve mentioned before, the fact that the Linux version of Chrome is only in beta release is the sole reason I’m still using Windows XP. When Chrome is up and running on Linux, I’m switching my computer over to Ubuntu.

But it is weird that you’re having so many problems with Adblocker and WOT. I use them on my netbook, and I’ve never had a problem. Which version of Firefox are you using?

I have one of the same problems, can’t log out of MX unless I clear recent history.  Don’t care.  I trust the two devices to help keep me safe.

I never log out of most of the sites I visit—I just turn off my netbook—so maybe I’d have the same problem. But it’s never come up.

i didnt notice until i had logged out and turned off my laptop, and was using my pc for some video editing, checked out the mx for a little processing-time entertainment, and saw PSKAP still logged in at the bottom. even with my computer off.

i am using an old version of firefox, that may very well be it.
