Xpress is looking for a few good boarders to create visual commentary on the phenomenon of Bele Chere to run on our landing page of the event. It can be a simple, crude drawing or a complex cartoon (or fumetti, if you’re listening breebs) tackling any angle of the festival, both good and bad.

And just to kick start off the process, I’m going to post my own very bad contribution. If you’re worried your art won’t be very good, just remember that it doesn’t have to be the best art in the thread, because at least it will be better than mine.

To me, Bele Chere summons up images of hugely obese tourists in novelty shirts they bought at the flea market and wrap-around sunglasses, blindly wandering about looking at crafts they have no hope at appreciating while waiting to hear music from a band that hasn’t been popular in 25 years.

Things have changed my Spartenburb friend..local bands..intelligent urbanites roaming about saying things like..“aren’t these mountain folks quaint..” plus the food and beer is amazing..

Not to mention the entire of array of Asheville freaks making fun of the hillbillies..now that alone is worth the price of admission..

I was at Bele Chere last year—not to mention having worked at it for the previous five—and there was hardly a shortage of people like I’ve just described.

What about just re-running last year’s cartoon.

This is quite possibly the funniest thing Bele Chere has ever inspired.

I wonder if these characters are familiar with spoon and can o beans? I bet they would get along smartly.
