Scary thunderstorms seem to scroll across the TV screen about every 3 days here in WNC..when I first moved here from California ( where we only have earth quakes and huge brush fires that take out thousands of acres and entire towns must evacuate 2 or 3 times a year..)

the warnings scared me..Usually the next day after the warnings..there was usually 2 or 3 folks on the news crying saying things like (

that tree missed me by 2 feet while I was watching Conan

) then they cue up a huge tree that destroyed half a guys house.

.Now I have a monster of a Tulip Popular totally covered by Kudzu.( kudzu is supposed to kill trees and anything that gets in its way..it has plans for world domination). This tree hangs directly over my bed..If a big storm decides to come through east Asheville I most likely will be the first to go..

A strange thing has come over me since I moved to Asheville..I’ve got that weird christian fatalistic thing..

“if it’s my time to go..let it be”

So come on big storm I dare ya.. I double dare ya..you can’t hurt me thunder ,lighting , floods, I’ve got an immortal soul and Jesus is a calling…

Were you here in 04 when this happened http://news.webshots.com/album/185230034DbpQTi?start=0 ?

The night Frances came was scary.

I was heading north in the tunnel on Tunnel road, 8pm,  when a lightening-struck tree fell across the southbound lane. I watched as all the lights went out and then the transformers on the utility poles started exploding. Both the darkness and the explosions started with the pole nearest to me and then rippled away concentrically.

With that exception, I’ll take the weather here over:

1.) Chicago. My dad saw The Wizard of Oz for 10 cents in a theatre, and was hit by lightning a couple days later, so I’m never sure about whether it’s reasonable to order the whole family to the basement and make them stay there for 24 hours when a tornado warning is issued. In ‘77, we had 40 inches of snow on April 3rd.

2.) Washington DC. A vast cloud of sticky humidity and pollution in the summer. Completely unpredictable winters characterized by freezing rain and storm systems meant for Pa. suddenly off-loading all the snow they could make.

3.) Apex, NC, now annexed to Cary. This was the worst of both worlds. Nice Spring. Hot, Code Red days in the summer that left me breathless after a 5 minute commute. Hurricanes in the Fall, and Winter ice storms that sent 50 foot oaks onto the ceiling above our bedroom.

Havent you oftentimes been the center of unexplained phenomena?

you might want to look into that.

You should prolly see a proctologist, though, just to be sure.
