If only all kids were this smart.  One line from Lennon’s Imagine could come true.

Kid hates going to church that much he steals a car
The Weber County Sheriff’s Office has released dash-cam video of a 7-year-old boy who went to great lengths to get out of going to church. He took the family car and led police on a low-speed chase. The boy told deputies it was just too hot to go to church, so he went for a joyride. His parents had no idea their car and their child was missing. “People in the neighborhood are talking about this,” said Weber County sheriff’s Lt. Matthew Bell. A quiet Sunday morning in Plain City was disrupted by calls of an unusual, reckless driver. “They could tell there was a small, young driver in the car,” Bell said. Deputies found the car near the local high school and tailed it for 10 blocks, all while the driver weave in traffic lanes and blew through stop signs. “The deputies at one time had pulled up kinda close to him on the side and could see it was a very small person driving the car,” Bell said. Deputies say this dime-sized, delinquent driver maintained speeds up to 45 miles an hour even though he had some trouble reaching the pedals. “His speed was slow, but erratically; and so he would kind of scoot down lower to push on the gas and kinda sit up on the seat more to see right where he was going,” Bell said. And where he went, was home. That’s when deputies got a better look at who they were dealing with: a 7-year old boy whose feet were as quick as his caper. “Very unusual situation, very unusual. I mean, what can you say?” Bell said. Investigators say the boy is too young to charge with a crime. They just hope his parents keep a closer eye on him. http://smallbitsandpieces.blogspot.com/2009/07/kids-version-of-fast-and-furious.html

What’s the question about?  This post is certainly about religion and a child’s natural instinct to rebuff efforts to program him. How many of us literally had religion shoved down our throats as children?  I’ve encountered more than one local who has complained bitterly about their upbringing in this area.  In fact some of the most anti religious people I’ve encountered on forums have been raised in Baptist families.  This boy may very well be a child of a Mormon family.  The incident occurred in Utah, no proof of this for certain but suggesting the possibility.

A kid goes on a joy ride and you somehow associate that with religious oppression?

I think “jumping to conclusions” is an understatement.

Excuse me, but the purpose of his ride was to AVOID CHURCH.  Also, you use the term religious oppression, not me. I’m suggesting it’s a natural instinct to resist being programmed thus the rebelliousness of our teen years when we reject outright much of what has been pasted to our foreheads, including religion.

Yep, I changed the original post.  The first neglected the issue and was, therefore, inappropriate, it did not reflect my chosen title.  That, perhaps, explains the confusion.

Gotcha. My bad for not reading the entire article.
But I still think you’re stretching just a bit. Also, I would definitely categorize programming as a type of oppression.

Who knew that the white man was so oppressed?

All of us failed to match our dreams of perfection. So I rate us on the basis of our splendid failure to do the impossible.

Then we have all been oppressed from day one yet a certain amount of freedom must be denied in order to teach us how to survive which is paramount for all species.  Truly, our minds are no our own unless we go to great lengths to throw off all conditioning.  Trust me, it’s virtually impossible, thus no one is truly free.

dittos.

i think the kid just didnt want to go to church. i mean, he doesnt exactly break down the church, he just says its too hot.  to be fair, you could also say he was protesting summer, global warming, or a lack of air conditioners.

It’s not like he gives the officer a detailed account of his grievances with the church, or organized religion.

Yeah, well even though I’m serious about the Lennon song and an end to organized religion, the post was not meant to be a serious statement about the boy’s reasons.  It was funny, wanted to post it, couldn’t find the right spot, so here it sits.

What exactly was happening in this thread? Was it a Thomas Hoffman “I hate religion and I’m the most spiritual dude here” thread?
