Although it’s only vaguely related to fashion and shopping, have bought a number of dud-ish Valentine’s Day gifts over the years, largely owing to my lack of common sense when it comes to—you guessed it—fashion and shopping.

Make me feel a little less bad, and share some stories about the most bone-headed gifts you’ve ever gotten on V-Day.

Steve,
Tell us about one of the dud-ish VD gifts you’ve given, please?

I can’t remember receiving a particularly bad gift. Of course, I’m easy--all I want is a little dark chocolate and lots of affection.

Three words: Bargain closeout panties.

Hehehehe...here are a couple:

My dad sent me a pair of elephant ear shoes from Thailand or Cambodia (somewhere over there) for Valentine’s one year. Gee, thanks dad. You know me so well.

When I lived in an ashram, a friend who had just come back from India brought me a red sari and gave it to me on V-Day. I wore it to a festival celebration days later (because it was beautiful and I loved saris)- and he and I were told rather publicly that red saris are wedding dresses in India. Both of us got a lot of junk about that.

Hmph...other than those, all my gifts have been wonderful. The best have come from my beloved hubby- he writes me poems and always makes his own cards. He always gets me a matching necklace and earrings, too. He is the sweet, sensitive type...AHHHHHH. Just a natural cornball ;0)
