if i had a nickel for every smoker i’ve known who thought they could grow, harvest, cure, and process their own tobacco, only to fail miserably when they realized it required a bit more skill than going to the gas station, i’d have close to a dollar.

Meanwhile, in the Canada ciggies are close to 10 bucks a pack, and folks are still smoking.

Same with homemade beer kits you make and force your friends to drink.  If you can do it, though, more power to ‘ya.

A monkey can make beer. It takes actual skill to process tobacco that you can actually smoke.

point taken. But if you ever had the chance to try some of this home-grown tobacco, i bet you’d wih it was just a crappy peach beer, as your lungs inflame and your eyes water.

from the article:

Provided the tobacco isn’t sold or traded, the Food and Drug Administration doesn’t regulate homegrown tobacco. Most people grow for cigarettes, but some blend their own cigars and chew.

that’s funny. The Supreme Court claimed a woman in California with cancer who grew her own marijuana was guilty of violating some sort of interstate commerce tax law by producing something that she otherwise would have had to buy on the market.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzales_v._Raich

The premise of that article makes me think it is the same people buying those tobacco seeds who are carrying AR’s to town hall meetings.

I quit smoking for a while.  I used this “Better Smoke”.  I bought it at Greenlife and it was just herbs in a tin.  They said the woman making it went out of business because she included rolling papers in it which made it subject to federal guidelines.  Sickening.

And they average $784 a week in pay (2008 figures cited). I’d smoke, too.

Here’s the current wage stats for the Great White North.

You’d smoke just cuz you had the spare cash? Or because it was so ####### cold 8 months of the year, and the beer was taxed too, and your wife was a better hockey player than you?

(also, cost of living is significantly higher in most Canadian cities, and the dollar is at about 90 us right now.)

Well, obviously you’ve never been there. Smoking is the unofficial national past-time, along with drinking beer and having an enormous inferiority complex with The USA. Oh, and Hockey.
