Lack of health insurance kills 45,000 Americans

Here’s a statistic bound to stiffen the resolve of health care reformers: The number of yearly U.S. deaths linked to lack of health insurance is now thought to be nearly 45,000—about 2.5 times more than previous estimates seven years ago. That means one person dies every 12 minutes. Why the jump? The study in the American Journal of Public Health points to an increase in the number of uninsured—at least 46 million today—and a fraying medical safety net.

The Harvard University-based researchers say uninsured, working-age Americans have a 40 percent higher risk of death than their privately insured counterparts. In 1993, that number was just 25 percent. “The uninsured have a higher risk of death when compared to the privately insured, even after taking into account socioeconomics, health behaviors and baseline health,” says lead author Andrew Wilper, who worked at Harvard Medical School when the study was done. “We doctors have many new ways to prevent deaths from hypertension, diabetes and heart disease—but only if patients can get into our offices and afford their medications.”

With health insurance premiums rising 131 percent since 1999, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation, it’s no wonder more and more Americans are dropping off the insurance rolls. The U.S. House and Senate are both tinkering on their own versions of a health care reform bill, but both have the same goal—covering all Americans—that has been Barack Obama’s mantra even before becoming president. Nevertheless, the details of how the $774-billion-plus price tag will be paid for, as well as whether there will be a government-run plan—have kept the reform process moving in slo-mo.

How long is it going to take before we become a civilized country?

Health Care Reform: 450,000 Doctors Can’t Be Wrong

The U.S. has a catastrophically fragmented health care system that provides incentives for sick care instead of prevention. The system is in dire need of reform—reform to save lives.

You have to ask yourself what kind of despicable low life criminals would knowingly allow 10s of thousands of people to die..just to bolster their bottom line..I don’t know these people…they hide so they won’t be discovered and prosecuted..

A bill for comprehensive health reform was first introduced by John Dingell Sr. in 1943.  Sixty-five years later, his son continues to introduce that same bill at the beginning of each session. The time to get these blood sucking bastards off the pubic dole is now!!!..I would like to see them pay for the countless deaths they’ve caused…

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Remarks-by-the-President-to-a-Joint-Session-of-Congress-on-Health-Care/

REMARKS BY THE PRESIDENT
TO A JOINT SESSION OF CONGRESS
ON HEALTH CARE

I am not the first President to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last.  (Applause.)  It has now been nearly a century since Theodore Roosevelt first called for health care reform.  And ever since, nearly every President and Congress, whether Democrat or Republican, has attempted to meet this challenge in some way.  A bill for comprehensive health reform was first introduced by John Dingell Sr. in 1943.  Sixty-five years later, his son continues to introduce that same bill at the beginning of each session.  (Applause.)
Our collective failure to meet this challenge—year after year, decade after decade—has led us to the breaking point.  Everyone understands the extraordinary hardships that are placed on the uninsured, who live every day just one accident or illness away from bankruptcy.  These are not primarily people on welfare.  These are middle-class Americans.  Some can’t get insurance on the job.  Others are self-employed, and can’t afford it, since buying insurance on your own costs you three times as much as the coverage you get from your employer.  Many other Americans who are willing and able to pay are still denied insurance due to previous illnesses or conditions that insurance companies decide are too risky or too expensive to cover.

Let’s stand behind the president and give the public option a chance. Private industry has had its chance and unless you’ve got your head buried in the sand, you’ll agree that it has been a failure on a massive scale.

Follow the Money–Who Really Benefits from Health Insurance?

Think about it, since the inception of health insurance who has benefited? The patients? No. Health insurance has made it possible for a one day hospital stay to rack up thousands of dollars. It created the 1 dollar aspirin and the $2,000.00 per dose medicine. It has made Doctors wealthy. It has made health insurance executives millionaires. But it hasn’t done anything for policy holders except drain our wallets and gets us to believe the big lie that we have the finest health care in the world. Ha–that’s a laugh.

Who runs health care now? CORPORATIONS. It is no longer about the patient it is about the profit. Hey, that would be a good slogan for them, “Profit Over Patients.” How do they make those profits? They make them by denying claims. They aren’t really in the health care business they are in the claim denial business. One has to wonder, if they are so good at the art of minimizing their risk, and they are, why does your insurance go up 20% or more every year? Can you say Corporate greed? The Lund Report said that the CEO of the Oregon Blue Cross/Blue Shield in 2008 was the highest paid insurance executive in the state taking home nearly a million dollars. “So what did Regence do that resulted in its leaders being rewarded so well? If you take a look at the company’s performance last year, it’s hard to find the merit. Not only did the state’s largest insurer lose 32 percent (334,228) of its members, bringing its enrollment down to its lowest level in five years (776,647), Regence’s profit margin barely reached 1 percent. However, the company collected more in premiums than during the previous year.” Where did the increases come from? Duh, from raising premiums on the policyholders.
They’ve Got Us Over a Barrel.

Doesn’t this sound suspiciously like the greedy Wall Street titans? They take theirs, and then some, while everyone else suffers. If health insurance executives want more money they raise premiums, after all, what can you do? If you have been sick while under their plan, you now have a preexisting condition. No other insurance company will cover you. And if you drop your current coverage because it is too expensive, they will never take you back. Talk about having us over a barrel. We are screwed. As long as health care in America continues business as usual, we will be paying twice as much per person as any another other country in the world. But do we have the best health care in the world? NO! According to W.H.O., we rank No. 37. We are 37th and we pay more than anyone. Double in many cases.
How Stupid Are We, Paying Double for Half the Benefits?

Let’s stand behind the president and give the public option a chance. Private industry has had its chance and unless you’ve got your head buried in the sand, you’ll agree that it has been a failure on a massive scale.

#### the public option.

Single payer, taxpayer funded health care now. Abolish insurance companies. Seize hospitals, clinics and urgent care centers and nationalize them. Make all health care providers Federal employees. Make aptitude testing mandatory during sophomore year of high school and segregate all individuals showing high marks in health-related areas into medical studies. Indoctrinate those children as the caretakers of the nation. Everyone else can join the army. Why not? The terrorists hate us so we might as well all be armed. Isn’t that what the Second Amendment says?

Socialism? I’ll show you socialism, you bunch of pansies. Pinko, my tail feather. You’ll think pinko when I’ve got you up against the wall.

Remove the profit motive from health care. It is a fundamental human right and corporations are not humans and do not have rights. Strip them of their charter. Strip them of their holdings. Return to the people that which was stolen away from us under the guise of the free market and rugged individualism.

After that, let’s work on food, water, shelter and clothing. Take back the developments! Hell, most of these multimillion dollar mixed use developments are practically exercises in Communist centralized planning anyway! Have you ever been in one? Measured lawns! Measured distances between completely equal houses! Perfect layouts and usage of resouces! Homeowners associations to tell you what color your front door should be and how high the grass can get! Commissars to rat you out when you fail to comply!

America is all ready falling fast to the Communists! Let’s just rush to meet them halfway!

Nationalize the Coca-Cola museum and the Waffle House! Put a Waffle House every ####### mile of every ####### road. Replace school lunch programs with Waffle House. Bert’s Chili has got to be better for you than the mystery meat. Come on, people! Visualize!

works in Britain..

Make all health care providers Federal employees. Make aptitude testing mandatory during sophomore year of high school and segregate all individuals showing high marks in health-related areas into medical studies.

We’re going to be down aprox..1000,000 nurses by 2020..I don’t care what health care reform we pass. No nurses no health care..

Indoctrinate those children as the caretakers of the nation.

There are currently over 50,000 rock bands in Los Angeles trying to stoke the star making machinery..what we have done.with programs like..“America’s got Talent,,,American Idol,,and the endless array of CSI programs is create a generation of great singers that want to dissect bodies..If we’re going to indoctrinate people into something why not have more programs called ” Americas Got Health Care Providers..”  Just saying

Everyone else can join the army. Why not? The terrorists hate us so we might as well all be armed. Isn’t that what the Second Amendment says?

Fortunaely we need less soldiers than we used to..We’ve got those great flying robots that can do war for us..Hell we can wage war from a condo in Las Vegas..sounds like a pretty good job..
Kill by day…Cirque du Soleil by night..

Socialism? I’ll show you socialism, you bunch of pansies. Pinko, my tail feather. You’ll think pinko when I’ve got you up against the wall.

I’m not a Pansie..although I do enjoy a good musical..

Return to the people that which was stolen away from us under the guise of the free market and rugged individualism.

Look if we can have big corporations that give a rats ass about it’s people I’m for them..But these selfish bastards that promise a retirement and then Bankrupt themselves and turn all their people out in the streets for greed deserve to be prosecuted to the full extent of our imagination..

After that, let’s work on food, water, shelter and clothing. Take back the developments! Hell, most of these multimillion dollar mixed use developments are practically exercises in Communist centralized planning anyway!

I do believe we need better supervision of our food and water supply..Alot of that shit will kill you..We should outlaw coke..because it poisons us…

Have you ever been in one? Measured lawns! Measured distances between completely equal houses! Perfect layouts and usage of resouces! Homeowners associations to tell you what color your front door should be and how high the grass can get! Commissars to rat you out when you fail to comply!

Yes I don’t like it..

America is all ready falling fast to the Communists! Let’s just rush to meet them halfway!

I hear your fear and frustration..There is a balance between government protecting it’s citizens and encouraging personal freedoms..At least that’s my hope..

Nationalize the Coca-Cola museum and the Waffle House! Put a Waffle House every ####### mile of every ####### road. Replace school lunch programs with Waffle House. Bert’s Chili has got to be better for you than the mystery meat. Come on, people! Visualize!

Now that’s just plain silly..although a nicely made chili can be very healthy…

MatCat I hate it when you force me to be the voice of reason..the crazy lunatic is a much funner role..although you do have a very exciting crazy lunatic lurking around in that big brain of yours…carry on citizen..
