First official release by locals The Nova Echo is set for launch Friday, 30 October, 9 pm at Stella Blue. So, okay, the guys are friends of mine so I may not be the most objective opinion, but…
It’s good!
The 16+ age rating makes it a rare opportunity for the high school crowd and $10 cover includes a copy of the CD.
Are these the guys that did the soundtrack for Moon Europa?
Wow. Holy monkey crap.
I just tried to listen to the track “Origin” on the facebook page. I am not Ebert, so i won’t even pretend to convince you that staying through the whole song to review it is necessary.
I lasted about 30 seconds.
Here’s why: First off, if you program your drum tracks you really should be aware that you can actually use the high hat on every beat, not just the ones that don’t have a kick or a snare sound. In fact, you probably should use some kind of high range noise on every beat unless you really are trying to make the song lurch a little bit. This would be ok, but not in every single bar. Come on.
Ok, so that’s the first ten seconds or so. Then I notice that this sounds a lot like a heavily polished studio effort or maybe just someone is really good with ProTools. Either way, it also sounds like a remix of some old Flock of Seagulls tracks. OK, whatever.
Far be it for me to go up against ‘boarders’ and ‘elites’ here, but I looked over Shanafelt’s rules and thought the following description suited the announcement:
This forum is for discussion about the local music scene and related topics. ... Hoping to get the inside word on new albums by local artists?
Hate it as you will after 30 seconds listening and at least 10 times that spent ranting, seems the topic is more pertinent/relevant from a regional perspective than most of the chatter going on here.
As for studio polish vs. live performance, you might be suprised… comparison to Flock of Seagulls isn’t such a bad thing. They’ve actually done a bunch of ‘80s covers, so you’re not at all out of line there.
I fail to see how being compared to that pop culture abattoir is a good thing.
Also, you aren’t here to “discuss the local music scene”, you are here to promote this band. You have started two topics about them. Does this band really necessitate two topics?
I really liked their live show when they opened for OddStar at the Boiler Room. Live shows often sound very different than studio efforts, which is why I’m not going to their webpage to hear their recorded song, but I do recommend their live show.

.......
Is that Autotune?
Really?
#### no.
I got sick of it after 2 minutes, but disliked it as soon as the synth kicked in.
Then the autotune. ####### autotune?!
I agree: #### no.
The Nova Echo are an awesome band. I have yet to hear any of their new album, but having met them and having seen how many fans they brought out—and most importantly—having seen/heard their live show—I will not be surprised when they continue to cultivate interest beyond Asheville.
As for autotune, you might recall my initial disappointment of its overuse by one of my fav’s, Kanye West, on his latest… but then that album grew on me against all odds.
And so let the Green Goblin rest a moment, knowing that he is not alone in his desire to see The Nova Echo succeed and continue.

Your choice of the term ‘abattoir’ is so romance period that I suggest you embrace the hip new title of contempt ‘sh*t factory.’
And you’re right, I don’t have much variety to offer the dialogue on local music. They don’t let me out much.
Just for the record (pun intended) I like Stephanie’s Id’s recent ‘Warm People’ album and Jar-e’s ‘Chicas Malas’ is incredibly good… but you’ve probably already heard of those.
Finally, yeah, why not have two threads a year or more apart devoted to any local act that are still hanging tough?
You forgot to mention Echo and the Bunnymen, but seriously, who under 35 has heard of any of that?
