How is the Asheville area job market?

Hello!

My family would like to move to the Asheville area.  We have family in Clyde and would like to live closer to them as right now we live in Boise, Idaho.  We’d like to live in Asheville.  I’m curious what the job market is like currently in the area?  Or if anyone has any suggestions I’d be happy for those too!  The type of job I would be looking for would be for an experienced (not entry level necessarily) professional in marketing/account management and program management.

Thanks for any comments and suggestions!

Michelle

i believe there may be some dishwashing jobs available.

if you lived in spartanburg SC, you could easily commute to Charlotte!

Also, this:

there is a reason it was voted ‘best place to retire’ by old people who dont need jobs and young people who dont want them.

All that said, it is a great place to live. But it’s also the kind of place where your barista or waiter may very well have a Masters Degree, and it was literally the best job they could find.

It’s a great place to live so long as your willing to accept being on food-stamps to help your wages make ends meet.

There is a great tip-jar economy here in the height of the tourist season, but you’d be coming here after the summer & leafing season is over.  Winter can be brutal.

That being said, now is the time to buy a house in the area if you can get a mortgage loan.  Renting however, can be murderous.

But - what Asheville lacks in professional wages & affordable housing, it makes up for in beauty, desire, and a supportive creative community.  Fair warning though, we are Beer City of the East Coast & supposedly have some of the best herb around; so while we are a very supportive creative class - we don’t always aspire to accomplish great things outside of hosting beer-fests & zombie walks.  ;-)

I <3 Asheville.
Truly, I do.

I heard that City Council write in candidate Tim Peck was going to personally make sure that Council works to bring thousands of new jobs to Asheville…as soon as he figures out how doing that would not violate his conservative mantra of government doing nothing to interfere with the market.

Write in Tim Peck for City Council!

Okay -

Tim Peck has nothing to do with this post.
Nor is he running any sort of campaign, write-in or otherwise.

If you want to continue your vilification of him, do it in the forum that has been created for that purpose.

Back on track with Michelle -

Buncombe County’s current unemployment rate is estimated to be between 8.5-9.5%, while Boise County currently has a 7.5% rating.

The overall rate for the state of North Carolina is 10.8%, Idaho’s is 8.5%.

If you are looking for work in this state it is better to look at Charlotte or the Research Triangle.
Otherwise it looks like the grass may be greener on your side.

so, in other words, you can get on food stamps and buy a house, or ignore our resident head-in-the-clouds early-20’s would-be politician.

This post is about jobs. I posted about jobs. Tim Peck probably wants people to have jobs, so if I posted about Tim Peck and jobs then I think I have been more on-topic than you have at this point.

It does not matter if Peck is running a write in campaign. He doesn’t have to. People are free to support a write in candidate for office, even if that candidate is not running or might even decline the seat if elected. It is an oddity of the American political system and it is perfectly legitimate. There is no vilification here and your insinuation that there is borders on slander, except that it is posted on the internet so it might be libel unless you were moving your lips while you typed it in which case it could be both. In either case, it is terrible to suppress my freedom to pretend I have freedom of speech on a private forum run by a private newspaper hosted on a private server and pretend that another private individual is somehow trying to for-real suppress my pretend-rights.

Bugger off pfff-thetic.

You’re not worth the bother of getting into it over a public forum.
Either take it to the level of sending me a private message, or as I stated previously: bugger off.

Actually, i’m in fairly good shape at about 6 ft 165. but thanks. And I think I was quite helpful to the author of the thread. i even looked up a job for her/him.

You, on the other hand have gone off on some bizarre timpeck lovefest that has nothing to do with me or the author of the thread.

You’re not worth the bother of getting into it over a public forum.

Well, then why’d you respond?

A private message about what, exactly? I was speaking with the author of the thread, who i felt i was quite helpful towards, than-you-very-much.

Damn, what a great way to present yourself, ms bo.

What exactly did i do again?

Also, I want to know what diet you are on. I wouldn’t mind being closer to 165 again even though I imagine that you look like a stick man because I know I used to look like one at 165.
