Just smacked my hands with some nettle on a walk this afternoon. MMMMMMM. Feels good for hands that tippity-type all day long. all you internet types like mr shanafelt might want to conside a good nettle sting treatment regimen to ward of the weird muscle atrophy shit.
just a reminder.
There are transparent, delicate short hairs on the underside of nettles’ blue-green leaves and along the stalk. These hairs are both toxic and healing. On contact they cause an intense prickly sensation on the skin, and in some cases a red irritation. This is not because they are sharp, but because of the chemicals they eject into the skin, in the form of tiny multiple localized injections. These hairs are filled primarily with formic acid, acetylchlorine, seratonin and histamines.
How nettles treat arthritis is through a process called urtication. When fresh nettles are lashed against the skin and joints they cause a gentle irritation which encourages the dilation of capillaries, stimulating circulation, nerves, lymphatic flow, and cellular metabolism. The seratonin and histamine are both neurotransmitters which act on the central nervous system. Clinical studies in Europe have found that this chemical cocktail blocks cytokines and other inflammation-producing immune cells, which encourage inflammatory deterioration in bone and cartilage. According to the BBC News article, “Nettles ease arthritis suffering’” (May 31, 2000), research done at the University of Plymouth concluded that nettle urtication reduces arthritic pain, possibly through the neurotransmitters which affect pain perception.
An herb expert told me their is enough nettle in the mountains around here to feed the entire USA..haven’t tried them yet..did eat me some kudzo..tastes like chewy peas..
Are you actually advocating whipping your hands with nettles for some medicinal purpose?
Sounds harsh…
are you actually asking that question? read the first post. i would think a ‘practicing rn for 30 years’ might at least have a tiny bit of knowledge about medicinal plants, or at least be able to read.
Just had never heard of it..things I don’t know..must be a hillbilly hippie remedy..which would make a fabulous thread for this forum…
Just created a cure for a sore throat..take a bite of ginger chew it up and then take a swig of whiskey or vodka swish it around in your mouth gargle a bit if you can take the burning..
then swallow..It really works..the liquor dilates the cell membrane and allows the ginger to do its magic ( anti bacterial, noninflammatory, immune system stimulant)...
Ya can’t have no Hill Billy Hippie remedy thread with out this one…posted this somewhere else once but this deserves to be shouted from the highest hillbilly hills..
I recently had an infection under my arm…inflamed skin..swollen lymph glands..it was not pretty.
So I bought some organic garlic ( some garlic has been irradiated and has lost it’s potency at the regular stores) at the local health store..ate some fresh garlic for two days..and poof gone..also had a pimple on my nose that wouldn’t go away..poof gone..
I had an unusual smell about me but I was well…
Garlic has been reported to cure antibiotic resistant staff and assorted other bacteria, fungus, some say it helps with cancer,,and yes some studies say it makes your brain work better..
You can crush it and apply it directly to a wound, pimple, rash…
From what I’ve read it works both in the blood and the lymphatic system…
no need to suffer…this stuff is fabulous..no prescription needed..
Boric acid used to be very popular 50 years ago until the pharmaceutical companies decided they needed to make more money with substances they could get a patent on..this stuff is great..way cheap too..
Boric Acid is a great anti fungal and kills some bacteria. Good for: jock itch, atheletes foot, a rash in your creases, dilute it in water and kills ear mites in pets and people… and I’ve heard and not tried this one: yeast infection ( put the powder in a gelatin capsule or capsules and insert). Now you may have a more serious infection and if this remedy doesn’t work go see a doc and get it fixed ( probably with anti biotics). Where do I get this magic substance? The cheapest and most plentiful source of Boric Acid I’ve found is at Walmart and please don’t get turned off, it’s in roach killer. NO I’m not crazy… Boric Acid also kills roaches, and check the ingredients 100% Boric Acid is what your looking for. Think about it. Anti fungal powder 9 bucks and quite often doesn’t work, foot powder 9 bucks, ear mite liquid for your dog, cat, and people, which is diluted boric acid 9 bucks. You can mix this stuff with corn starch or baby powder if you want..I like it straight.
