I would like to hear some comments on what ya’ll think of the feds taking the kids from the Texas polygamist sect.
Don’t you think the action was extreme for a country that espouses freedom and democracy?
Who is to say that they couldn’t come and take my kid next? Maybe because I don’t believe in the current government or because I don’t drive a gas hog or some other reason......(brown hair, Buddist, or Sufi, Methodist, or anything else)

Yikes!!! what is goin on in the US?

I think it is great. Much better than Waco.

The sister of the mother of my son’s best friend lives in some quasi-fundamentalist commune in South Carolina. Another commune member sexually abused one of her daughters and was returned to the commune for a period of house arrest. What sense did that make?

The little girl stays in her house all the time now so she won’t have to see the perp. Now I hear her dad just came down with hepatitus c. “Oh, I must have had it for a while.”

I wish some sort of Big Bad Government upon all of these groups who put up with child abuse and hide behind religious freedom.

Let’s see where do we start…. maybe at the confessionals?  When you confess you are forgiven… therefore… no guilt… right?

When we take the sin out of our naked bodies…. when we start to understand that masturbation is a needed self pleasure…. When we know that we are not alone and to stop the cycle we have to understand where it started.

When we sign the Birth Certificate the child belongs to the State.  (what I heard… correct me if I am wrong)

Let me follow my own post.
My biggest concern here, is the individual’s rights....seems to me they are harming the innocent (the kids ) and not getting at the problem....the men.
I would like to see the men removed and the children returned to their mothers, at least until more info can be obtained.

I guess they took the easiest route and removed the children.
Guess we will ram our morality down their gullet whether they want it or not..... similar to taking democracy to Iraq.

My understanding is that the underage mothers have been removed also and are with their children. I think I heard on NPR that initially, the mothers were so uncoopertaive that they wouldn’t even identify whose children were whose and that once they understood that they would be kept with their children they started speaking up.

I’m really not sure, Nuvue, how you think we are ramming morality down anyone’s gullet in Texas. The men will start getting charged when all the DNA work is done. If you are saying that you think they should have left the families in the compound and expelled all the men until the investigation was over, I think that would have been best but probably not legal.

ramming our morality down their gullets? by protecting children? are you for real?

the mothers in this community are just as guilty as the fathers. they are complicit and leaving the children with the mothers prior to or during interviews would compromise the integrity of the interviewing process.

children first, children last, children always ...

Wait a minute Lumina, aren’t most of the mothers children too? AFAIK, many of them were born into this group and know nothing different. I just don’t hold them to the same standard I think the men who run this patriarchal cult should be held to.

The whole thing is just really, well, icky. I don’t know if leaving the children to be with their damaged mothers is better or worse than foster care.

We do not know what we do not know until we are taught.

Sometimes what we are taught is not the truth.

How can we condemn those who do not know what true freedom is?
