If eating at 20,000 restaurants has taught me anything it is expensive doesn’t always equal good. In fact, two of my three favorite restaurants (of all time) are considered cheap eats. But don’t let the price fool you, the quality of the food is 5 stars. For the curious, you can find a post about my 3 favs on my ephemera blog, if you’re interested in digging around for it.
Anyway, what are the best cheap eats in Asheville? I’m talking cheap, folks. Where two people can safely dine for $25 or less. There’s only one rule to this post: NO CHAINS. (That said Chipotle, a chain, is one of the best things going, but there are no outlets in Asheville).
So, among the independently owned places in town, who’s got the best cheap eats?
Wow ... you have eaten out every day for almost 55 years and even ate at a different place everytime! That has to be a world record of some kind!
You may be surprised, Travelah, to learn that not everything is meant to be taken literally. However, for the sake of accuracy, the actual number is 1,151. Please accept my deepest apology for the obvious and intentional exaggeration.

My husband and I ate at the Noodle House across from the Vance this evening. With an appetizer, 2 entrees, a coke, and 2 chinese beers, our total came to $26! And it was excellent! Fresh, simple, clean, and ample food in a cool atmosphere.
AND, we have more than half of our food as leftovers for tomorrow.
North Star Diner, Weaver Blvd, Weaverville (next to Kerr Drug). Yeah, I know, it’s not in Asheville, but it’s in the Asheville area, and you can EASILY get a fantastic meal for 2 for under $25. Check it out!
