On Saturday, June 28, Pat and I filmed the Western Carolina Amateur Radio Society’s Field Day on the grounds of Asheville’s VA Medical Center. ‘Field Day’ is an annual nationwide test of emergency communications by ham radio operators. Hams provide communications in natural disasters and other emergencies—Hurricane Katrina is a recent example. We are producing a 30-minute documentary on this Field Day exercise.
