If you’ve not been to see a music event at the Grey Eagle maybe you should put it on a list of things to do.  The club has a funky atmosphere but is set up with seating and an actual stage and all arranged in such a way as to provide very close viewing.  On August ninth one of my favorites, John Cowan, will appear.  John was the bassist and lead vocalist for the New Grass Revival along with Sam Bush and Bela Fleck.  The three still can be seen performing together at festivals but this is the John Cowan Band which last appeared here at the Brewgrass Festival couple of years ago.  http://johncowan.com/site.php

With all due respect, the Grey Eagle is not all that easy to locate and when you do find the place the neighborhood is no place to break down in late at night.  Going home from there the last trip out, we ended up in the infamous projects and we were not even seeking to make a buy.

“Bad Neighborhood”? “Infamous Projects”?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!!!

Where are you from, Marion? Ooooh, the river district, with its trust-funder ceramics makers and the bio-diesel plant and wacky sculptures all around. OOOOOOhhhhhhh!
And what “projects” could you end up in near there? You took a seriously wrong turn.

Yep, took a wrong turn trying to get back to 25. No grew up on the streets of an industrial town thrice the size of Asheville, lot of Italians.  Once, when I was very young and foolish and had an even more foolish pal with me, we went out to a night spot in Albany, NY that sat just on the edge of a black neighborhood.  Our vehicle, a tank built in 1949 by Desoto, accidentally crumpled the fender of a Chevy parked behind us.  I was all set to do the decent thing, get out, look for an owner etc., but my pal insisted almost frantically, that I drive!

I am all too aware of what can be lurking in dark alleys and empty buildings.  With all the crime in the news of late, one would wonder why you’re scoffing?  My son lives over in West Asheville and is extremely careful, even going to the market in the evening and never goes out walking the dog after dark. He knows a fair amount of martial arts too,but fat lot of good it does you when the other guy has a pistol as when he got mugged in San Francisco.

Well, I digress but I get just livid when people make fun of me. darkevil.gif

All things considered, Asheville is very safe. I’ve never had a single problem in the River District, and only a few sketchy moments in West Asheville. I find the idea that the area around the Grey Eagle is somehow scary to be confusing. I guess it could kind of look scary if you didn’t know what was in the spaces, and it’s certainly not well lit, but the only people I’ve ever run across down there are artists and people leaving the Grey Eagle.

A lot of the feeling has to do with past experiences and being unfamiliar with the inner city, so to speak.  My wife is up there nearly every day but I’m the typical country cousin that might get to town once a month.  We’ve got one car, she works thus I sit here with only that little critter and my extensive entertainment facilities of which this here PC is apart.

You can probably tell, I only post on this forum because I can use my Firefox addon and dazzle you all with my narcissistic messages.

Check out his other youtube videos.

I’d love to see this guy at the Grey Eagle, does anyone know if he’s been to Asheville yet.

Thank you.  The emoticons are a Firefox add on.  Your system just happens to be compatible.
