GET RUFUS! by Bob Terrell, “the dean of mountain writers” is going to the printer next week, so i performed (as I often do) the arcane art of book cover design.

Ralph-

I just have to say that the idea of losing my heart to a female mule will probably keep me far away from this one. Maybe I’ve just never met the right mule; maybe it’s a mountain thing my flatlander self will never understand.

It’s not like there is a local Sunday paper handing out free zeitgeist anymore.

heh, heh….. yep.

but actually that quote was written by a quite well known flatland writer… Mike lives in Cincinnati, which is awfully flat except for its wonderful chili (I love both Gold Star and Skyline).

Skyline is watery crap with too much cheese on top.

I need “stump training” defined. It’s fine if you mock my ignorance.

Those that grew up in the hills know what I’m talking about… and maybe most of Texas too.

Ok-so Texans, Appalachians, and Wyoming folk share this occult knowledge of “stump training.” Steve likes where this thread is going.  Those four things add up to nothing and I remain unilluminated.

Let me free-associate “stump” for you. Amputee, tree remnant, to puzzle, ...-I’m dry.

You’re avatar is going to get a whole lot yuckier…

Half of my childhood was in Memphis, the other half was in a more rural area of East Tennessee.  There I learned about how some farmers “stump trained” their cows.  They would stand on the stump, pull down their pants, the cow would come over and you can figure out the rest.

This isn’t in Wikipedia???
