Although I have no nationalistic pride, I am a fan of watching the Olympic games. Has anyone else been watching?

A little. I caught the opening ceremony, some of the swimming events and bits of the Chinese women’s gymnastic. So far, so good.

Bits and pieces.  I would like to see some basketball and, of course, track and field which I participated in and coached. My wife and I are pretty much into the international spirit too except, of course, for team sports.  You kind of can’t avoid it unless the US is not playing. Also tremendously interested in what’s happening in China, and how this affair will impact things. The opening ceremony revealed the fact that spiritual practice of Tai Chi must be quite popular.  Buddhism, of course, is not a religion so much as a way of life.

Beh.  Tibet, Darfur and general human rights issues on their own people.  I ain’t watching (not that i was a big Olympic fan before).

When people are your greatest resource, even more of them are expendable.  I have nothing but admiration for the Chinese people, but the People’s Government sucks.  Hey! That’s kinda like our country!

Anyone else getting a little tired of the Michael Phelps as savior of American sports? Sure, it’s awesome about all the medals and stuff, but I’m kind of tired of hearing his name all the time.  I was watching some volleyball game, and the sportscasters couldn’t shut up about Phelps and his medals. Who cares about the team we’re watching—a different sport, a different gender, a different arena—let’s talk about dolphin boy.

... Just saying.

That’s how I felt about Brian Boitano iin 1988. People are still wearing “WWBBD?” bracelets.

That song is brilliant. It’s a shame that Michael Phelps’ name is two syllables too short to easily update it.

I think they should turn ESPN into the Phelps/Favre/Yankees/Red Sox Network. Then they would be honest about what they cover and every few days they could cut to a live feed of Stuart Scott, Chris Berman and Tom Jackson masturbating to a picture of Tom Brady just to mix stuff up.

I don’t follow football (big surprise, I’m sure), but this Favre thing is also getting out of hand. Here’s a nice commentary on it: http://www.somethingawful.com/d/news/favre-packers-espn.php

I have to admit that I have yet to watch a single minute of the Olympics. Not that I’m not a fan of it, I just haven’t had the time really.

Man, I’m lovin the olympics. Where else can you lay on the couch for a whole week unless sick??
And watch folks bust their asses.
I do wish they would show a little more international stuff, and I would like a little more badminton and maybe some ping pong thrown in. Where is the pole vault?
There has to be waaaay more stories than M. Phelps.
