Byran Freeborn has started a ning - a social site (kinda like a community version of Myspace or Facebook) for West Asheville.  Made just for people interested in West Asheville concerns, it’s even a way to network within your neighborhood, share photos and videos, discuss building projects and where to eat.  People like Marsha Stickford, the Neighborhood Coordinator for the city of Asheville watch it and use it to help establish community here.

Nings are a good way to start and keep social interaction on very specific topics (like a single form thread is here).

For instance, I started my own about asheville graffiti.

But remember, if you start your own it dies on the vine unless you keep up with it (adding content, discussion and photo/vids).
