Hello everyone, Jason Bugg here.  I’ve been posting on the forums here, just having fun. I make crude jokes, share some insight, stir the pot, and generally just be myself here at the MountainX Forums. I always thought that what I do here is just fun, even with the people I’ve had disagreements with in the past. But apparently, someone here can’t separate real life from the internet.

I write for a living. When I’m not here on the Xpress boards causing chaos, I am usually writing articles for papers all throughout the country. Even though I now live in Sylva, I consider in a lot of ways the Xpress and Asheville “home base”. Although I’m not a staffer at the Xpress, I feel as if because I’m on these boards I’m often confused with an official voice of the paper. I am not an official voice.

It came to my attention that someone from this board (I have no idea who) wrote the Xpress a letter (not an email, and honest-to-goodness letter) complaining about me. Because of this, I fear that if I keep posting on this board I will endanger my standing with my local paper of choice and cause them unnecessary stress.

So effective immediately, I’m excusing myself from the table. I am a struggling writer, and every penny counts. So thanks a lot, whoever sent the letter. You, who can’t separate the internet from real life win. I will post here no longer. You are free to spam the boards with senseless hatespeak.

Have a good day, everyone. I’m sorry to anyone I’ve offended on here. Unless of course your are the person who wrote the letter. To Nam Vet I say get a life.

Jason.

Jason, you can’t be serious.  If MountainX can tell the difference and so (obviously) can you who cares what this ‘exception’ thinks?  I can understand the financials of your decision, but not the lay-over-and-expose-your-belly attitude.  And your explanation isn’t mean enough for you to be fishing for compliments, so i have to take you seriously.

So seriously, don’t stop posting.

You, of all people, are going enact a self-imposed ban based on a letter of complaint?

Nam Vet, FTW!

I wish Jason would reconsider, but I do understand where he’s coming from. I have suspicions a plenty about who wrote that no-return-address letter (I think we all do) citing Jason’s sparring with NamVet’s various guises, but when you’re a freelancer, you have to put making a living ahead of trading barbs on the internet. He got right up to the line of being banned himself a few times, but he never did anything on par with NamVet’s perpetual sockpuppeting and, quite honestly, sick posting of an aborted fetus directly on to the board. Jason never crossed that last line, though.

I don’t like his decision, but I do understand it. Still, I wish he’d think it over again.

Those of you who like Jason and want him to stick around, please PM him.

Well, he could always come back as someone else/use an alias this time.

I’ve heard about people doing that on message boards before.

...
I don’t like his decision, but I do understand it.
...

This is rich. So, said letter was anonymous as well?
Really, there should be more details on this. Was the letter threatening? Was it sent to other publications? Did a head honcho at MountainX have a sit down with Bugg over his behavior? Was he put on notice?

I honestly can’t believe that a simple, anonymous letter complaining about Bugg would influence him to stop posting.

It’s your decision Bugg, but there has to be more to the story.

You disappoint me, Bugg… of course, you disappoint a lot of people, but that seems to be your hobby.

I am surprised, however, that one letter would chase you away. I had you tagged as having bigger cojones than that.

You have, however, been rather unnecessarily pushing the envelope a lot lately, here and on other boards.

Been where you are now as a starving writer and survived to become successful.

Just an observation; writers and TV producers (and I am both now) are really entertainers. We achieve success and money BY entertaining, not by hacking people off. The real trick is being true to your art and saying WHAT you want to say in such a way that they pay you the ultimate compliment of buying your book or the periodicals in which your work appears.

Once you become old and moderately well off like me THEN you can hack people off.

so, Bugg, tone it down, suck it up, and be true to your talent because no one else will or even frickin’ understand it.

And Ralph, you never cease to amaze how sharply and clearly you manage to toot your own horn even while on the highway of another’s story.  I’m not being snotty here, i truly am in awe. I know that self-promotion is a part of what you do and perhaps in the final analysis is in fact your art.

And Jason leaving would only quiet the cacophony.  Which already makes me nostalgic for the good ole days when we could pick on da Bugg.

Aww, let the poor sot alone.  It was hard enough for him to type with one hand even with a backlit keyboard.

Besides, he was noway near as stunningly handsome as I am!

couldn’t you just still hang around and lay off the disgusting immature talk?

i enjoy your writing about music and some other things, and you have a really sharp and smart sense of humor until it slides back into the middle school locker room. but to be quite honest, i was prepared to stop posting here myself because of the lack of moderation of your potty humor. it’s just too gross. it makes visiting the forum stressful instead of fun, and i would just as soon post somewhere else as to battle it or deal with it.

although i didn’t write the letter, i sorta understand the sentiment behind it ... but i would much rather you stay and we all stay and you just play nice ... you can still be you without references to feces, you know. what happened to the all-new bugg anywayz?

Zen, the message was to Jason, not you.

There is hope for Jason, let him find his way.

I agree with Lumina - just stop being pointlessly crass and continue to be a part of things.  This seems obvious…

honestly, i don’t think he’s going anywhere. i’ve been posting on boards for 11 years and have never seen someone opus off a board and really mean it ...

seriously, bugg, that sort of writing isn’t the best you anywayz, and it sure ain’t humor. shock humor is lazy and you have plenty of wit, intelligence and writing talent without it. in fact, it’s a shame to hide your talent behind that sort of schlock. let it shine, bruthuh ... the post on your blog about mumpower ... rock on. the articles on music ... fabulous.

just let it go.

why do i want to add “Luke” to the end of your last statement?  :)

And Lumina, i too have never seen a dying swan song (or ugly duckling) monologue about regretfully leaving a board or chat group or whatever that the person didn’t come back in some reincarnation.  Usually unchanged.  You are so wise beyond your years.
