Recently, I visited the Five Guys Hamburgers & Fries franchise on Hendersonville Road. I’d heard good things about the food, and the place was buzzing—with flies. It ought be called “Five Flies Hamburgers and Fries.” I mentioned the name change to the counter person as we walked out, and she got a big laugh out of the suggestion.

I don’t mind a greasy spoon, as long as the spoon isn’t literally greasy. What are some of your experience regarding dirty places around town?

(I know there’s a health department study that appears from time to time, but I’m more interested in anecdotal experiences than studies.)

I’m willing to bet that the dirtiest of local restaurants are cleaner than your average kitchen.

You should try 2 Guys Pizza on Brevard Road. I think it would have to be cleaner because there are like, 3 less guys in the kitchen, at least.

I just ate at Five Guys for the first time today. I think I know what the problem is. As my granddaughter pointed out, it wasn’t really 5 guys, it was actually 6 guys and 2 chicks.

Other than that little discrepancy, I thought the hamburgers were great, and saw nary a fly.

Parmesan anyone?
