Was wondering if ya’ll could give some recommendations…
Getting into graphic novels (or at least I want to)...pretty much all I’ve read are ‘The Sandman’ books, which I friggin’ love….
Any suggestions on where to go next?
Oh yeah, what Steve said is all good. Sorry, I didn’t mean to ignore your request, I was just not sure about what to suggest because I don’t know your tastes and then I went to study on it some more and after that I forgot about it. But I assure you that I had plenty of that stuff that the road to hell is paved with.

Gaiman’s other series are pretty good, if you can find them. “Lucifer” and “The Books of Magic” come to mind, as does “Black Orchid.” You could also try Alan Moore’s work—“V for Vendetta,” “Watchmen,” “From Hell,” “Miracle Man” or his run on “Swamp Thing”—for something slightly more brainy.
If you like the updated fantasy thing that Gaiman does, you might want to try “Fables,” which is vaguely along the same lines (although less clever, in my view). There’s also Eric Shanower’s work—his entertaining “Oz” work and his “Age of Bronze” series putting a more modern spin on the Trojan War. If you like more human interactions, you might want to try Craig Thompson’s “Blankets” or “Goodbye Chunky Rice.” Jason Lute’s “Berlin” series is also pretty cool.
There’s also local comic book writer/artist Hope Larson, who is something of a rising star in indie comics. Her books are generally quick reads, but I’ve enjoyed them all.
Thanks Steve…

no sweat…
Lately I’ve been reading Y The Last Man, which is really great. Also some DMZ and The Trials of Shazam are awesome.
Allright…thanks ya’ll….it seems like i’ve got a pretty good list to start with…i’ll check back in and tell ya what i think….
I’m more into straight super hero stuff, but Criminal by Ed Brubaker is a great Crime Noir comic and a letter from yours truly is printed in issue 3 or 4.
I really like James Turners Rex Libris series. I read this one House, by Josh Simmons that kind of sucked (well, not read because there were no words, but you get the picture). and I have the graphic novel Glacial Period by Nicholas De Crecy on my desk to read but haven’t got to it yet.
“Echo” by Terry Moore. (And of course, check out his “Strangers in Paradise” series. Great stuff.) “Fables” by Bill Willingham is also good, and the new “Batman and Robin” by Grant Morrison rocks!
I keep meaning to pick up some Fables collections but I can’t spend the extra dough. I find I’m having to cut back on certain books I’ve normally subscribed to anyway (goodbye new lame JLA!).

I’ve read several of the collections. They tend to be a little same-y and slow, in my opinion, but they’re not bad. If you’re into that general narrative style, though, you might want to check out Adrian Tomine’s work. His early collections are a little lame, but recently he’s been coming into his own.
