On an unrelated note, I’m putting together this week’s Listening Party this afternoon, so get your suggestions in soon.

Possibly a day late now, but how about oddSTAR?

The Listening Party is a GREAT idea, btw…

Both Jason Ross Martin and oddSTAR are featured in this week’s Listening Party, and if you’d like to get your band in on the action (or your friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s roommate’s band, for that matter), please post all the relevant info here.

Am I right when I say that when I saw Akamai Drone, they were oddStar without the other guitar player?

Well, we do share personnel for live performances and work closely together to help promote each other, but all songs and lyrics for oddSTAR are written solely by myself, I am the frontman for that band, and I am ultimately responsible for all aspects of its existence…whereas the same is true of Christian Imes for Akamai Drone.  Therefore, we consider them to be two entirely distinct creative entities who happen to share a pool of talent when we put on a show.  I know it’s confusing when you see the same people rearrange themselves and then call themselves something else, but I assure you that each band would still exist without the other—we just find that the benefits of this kind of “teamwork” make it convenient and effective to operate this way for the time being.  Essentially, you could think of oddSTAR and Akamai Drone each as a one-man-band (the recorded material is generally produced entirely by the respective frontman) who have hired the same set of musicians for “touring” purposes… ;)

That’s a yes, then?

That’s a yes if your referring to live performances, but AD is a little more up in the air, as the size of the show and tour decides which live band to bring out, close inspection would reveal that this is version 1.1 of the Akamai Drone live, which can change we have a string of dates coming up with sheep on drugs to which we might bring a bassist and a drummer along, but for club shows and smaller venue we use version 1.1 as its a case of logistics and allows us to put on a show without going for broke, besides i think it speaks volumes for our live musicians as the style’s of music are completely different from other.

Hope this clarifies, its really allot less complicated than it seems, but it is what it is.

very best regards,

Imes-

I have seen these two similar yet VERY different bands perform together before and I have to agree that it definately says a lot for the musicians who play within them cuz the style’s are extremely different from what I could hear. I truly do enjoy them both. Oddstar is seemingly laid back music to chill to while Akamai Drone is the type of music you can REALLY feel, in a totally different way.
Of the two tho, I do enjoy Akamai Drone more, its geared more toward my listening preferences. I just love the energy behind the music and the raw emotion you can feel in a lot of the lyrics. And the energy it draws in from the crowd and pushes back out to it is phenomenal!! The lead singer really puts his all into his perfomance. Great charisma!
SO, with that being said, my suggestion is to put Akamai Drone on the next listening party cuz they are awesome!!

Thank you for the opportunity to be featured in the Listening Party.  I have enjoyed the exposure it has brought me as I get fired up for the LOVEDARTS CD Release Party, to which I hope anyone who’s interested comes!

But anyway, here’s some suggestions for future listening parties…....Thanks again for having included me.

1.  Ash Devine
2.  Dave Turner
3.  Kevin Scanlon
4.  August Rivers
5.  Deb O’Nare

These are 5 distinct songwriting talents at different points on the name recognition curve.  But they all would benefit from being included in the dialogue on your page I think.

I’ll be putting together the next Listening Party tomorrow, so keep those suggestions rolling in.

Also, I’m thinking about having at least one selection each week come from this forum thread. I’m also considering adding in some kind of voting when there’s more than one option.

Thoughts?

Steve I think listening party suggestions could be one access point, and then some kind of popular demand could be another.  To me, the problem with always relying on a vote means that fledgling voices might miss this opportunity to generate the fanbase that might then vote for them…  Of course, playing out live would be a far superior strategy to connect with an audience…. but then again they might have gotten interested enough to attend a show via this unique forum you’ve created.

Which comes first?  The chicken or the egg?
