I’m planning on seeing Fisher Meehan and the Mad Tea Party at the Grey Eagle on Saturday. I’m tempted to try to wheedle my way into seeing the Avett Brothers at the Orange Peel later this month, as I haven’t seen them play live since their show at the Westville pub in 2003 or so. Then there’s Stephanie’s Id at Stella Blue on New Year’s night, but the crowds will probably prevent me from following through on that.
I’ll be at the Avetts on one, if not both nights, but after that, it’ll be a dry spell for a while. The only things I’m looking forward to are Van Halen (with David Lee Roth!) in Atlanta in February and Springsteen in Charlotte in April.
I have a huge cougar crush on Scottie Avett. Watching him live just, well, thrills me. He goes from head-banging, string-breaking, screaming wild man to heartfelt, lyrical, finger-picking soul man in a matter of seconds. Sigh.
Somebody mentioned to me the other evening that Richard Thompson was coming to the Orange Peel in late January. If it is true, that would be a show worth attending.

It’s real, and you should probably get your tickets soon. This is from the Orange Peel web site

I’m banning Richard Thompson until he comes with his kick ass band, who I haven’t seen in 14 years.
I just got my tickets to Built to Spill, which will no doubt sell out. I’m also taking my son to see Super Furry Animals in January (Atlanta), they are his and one of our favorite bands.

Orbit, thats about the same time frame give a year or two that I last saw him electric. Unfortunately, I’ll miss his show because of prior engagements. Nonetheless, he puts on a great performance no matter who is with him.
Built to Spill has great show written all over it. I wish other clubs in town (I’m looking at you Grey Eagle) would post what’s coming up that far in advance on their websites.
Alright I’ll be the first to ask, does anyone have an Avett Brothers ticket to sell? I thought I was ahead of the game by trying to buy tickets a few months in advance, but… it was like Smashing Pumpkins all over again. With that said, I will be buying tickets for Tyler Ramsey in advance.

Can’t help you with the Avetts, but I do HIGHLY recommend getting Tyler Ramsey tickets as soon as you can.
