Don’t forget, a lot of local nonprofits have shops that they operate year round and the proceeds all go to a worthy cause. Museum gift shops - like those at Pack Place - have great, unusual gifts, too, so it’s win/win!

Plus, a lot of those items are no longer cluttering up people’s attics and yard sales, so it is actually a win/win/win!
The 1,000 Villages Store on College Street downtown has a lot of third-world, inexpensive crafts.
I know they’re not local, but the organization is run by Menonnites (sp?) and all the profits go to help those who could really use it in those emerging countries.

Here’s info on the Khrusty Khristmas Festival, which is also a benefit for the Asheville Free Book Exchange.
The event is from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 and features coffee, mulled wine, local arts and crafts and more. Here’s word from the event’s organizer:
It’s open for everyone, it’s a family-friendly event. We’re encouraging people to bring their favorite holiday goodies and a bottle of wine. Coffee (provided by http://www.greenbean-store.com), mulled wine, apple cider, and the goodies will be available to anyone who attends.
We will have local artists and craftsmen (featuring our own Melanie with her hand-knit wearables from mellowknee.etsy.com) bringing wares for last minute gifts. We encourage people to contact us if they are interested in selling their products for this one-day event.
At 6 p.m. we will be showing “A Christmas Story” and everyone can snuggle up with their wine or cider and enjoy the movie!
