with around a $20K pay cut for average reporter salary.

So reporters will have to pay about 5k to write?

Clever. The pay scale drops from about $50k for an average writing salary (not intro-level, but average) to $30k at the new online project. That puts it in the same ballpark as staff writing for a major alt-weekly, so it’s not that bad. But some of these people have had their jobs for decades, so I’m sure it’s rough looking at that number.
