The Mountain Sports Festival will be jamming all weekend long, with free live music on the main stage in Festival Village beginning Friday night (see grid for schedule). Plenty of musical pedigree will be featured in a lineup that includes Jimbo Mathus (former lead singer of the Squirrel Nut Zippers), Jeff Coffin Mu 'Tet and Future Man (both of the Grammy-winning Bela Fleck and the Flecktones), not to mention all the members of Grease Factor: Johnny Neel (Allman Brothers), Shane Theriot (Neville Brothers), Derek Jones (Nickel Creek), Jeff Sipe (Leftover Salmon) and Count M'Butu (Aquarium Rescue Unit). Here's a complete list of the bands and their unique brands of music:
• Captain Soularcat -- a mix of Southern rock fatback, salty blues and silky-sweet soul.
• Eta Carina -- original salsa, samba, merengue, bossa nova and more.
• Fifth House -- sounds ranging from edgy New York funk to New Orleans soul strut to West Coast electronica.
• Gamble Brothers Band -- Southern rhythm and blues, funk, jazz and rock.
• Geoff Achison -- a mix of stripped-down ballads, blues and rockers from this Aussie (who performs with his band, The Souldiggers, when he's not going solo).
• Grease Factor -- a musical pot of funky, finger-lickin' jams.
• Jeff Coffin Mu 'Tet with special guest Future Man -- two of Bela Fleck's former Flecktones.
• Jimbo Mathus -- gutbucket North Mississippi blues.
• Makia Groove -- reggae/bluegrass/funk/jazz/blues blend.
• Mandorico -- Latin-flavored funk.
• Red Mango -- eclectic world-music mix, from Latin folk songs to swing and jazz.
• Stephanie's Id -- one part pop, two parts jazz; a local favorite.
