You can't just send anybody to a film like That Darn Cat. It takes a certain "impur-r-r-tinence" to get the scoop on a cat who sleuths. And we've got just the snoops: Amanda Levesque and Claire McLendon -- our teen movie reviewers who went out to bring back the dirt on Patti, Deke and Elvis. Here they offer the last meow on That Darn Cat:
Sixteen-year-old Patti Randall (Ricci) is bored out of her mind in her peaceful small town. Her mother wants Patti to be popular, but her only friend is a cat named D.C. (Darn Cat). When the maid of a millionaire who lives in Boston is kidnapped, Patti is even more convinced that nothing cool ever happens in Edgeville, S.C., and that she needs to find some action. But then D.C. comes home wearing a watch with the word "help" (well, it wasn't quite help) scratched on the back, Patti is convinced that this is a message from the kidnapped maid. She sets out for Boston to convince Zeke Kelso (Doug), an FBI agent, to help her find the kidnappers. There follows a tedious, pointless 45 minutes, in which absolutely nothing happens. This film has a few redeeming points, though. #1: Christina Ricci is a great actress playing a wonderful, believable role. #2: There's a really cool explosion near the end of the movie. But as for Doug E. Doug ... well, he stinks. He is apparently a talented actor, but he's wasted on a role that stinks. Elvis, the cat .. well, what can we say? He's a typical cat. That Darn Cat? All in all, this is an OK movie, as long as you don't have anything better to do.
