Directed by: Wim Wenders
Starring: Bruno Ganz, Solveig Dommartin, Otto Sander, Curt Bois, Peter Falk

I reviewed this Wim Wenders film a few years back for a Hendersonville Film Society screening, and while I will add a few thoughts here, I direct the reader to that review: www.mountainx.com/movies/review/wingsofdesire.php. I’ve seen Wings of Desire (1987) once in the meantime and my take on it is about the same, though more and more I find Wim Wenders to be a not wholly appreciated treasure. It isn’t so much a question of liking or not liking his films as it is simply recognizing that his is a unique voice in film—and such voices should be cherished and listened to. If you’ve never seen this 1987 film of his, do so, and ask yourself why there’s not more room in the world of film for this kind of individualism.
Classic Cinema From Around the World will present Wings of Desire at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, at Courtyard Gallery, 109 Roberts St. in the Phil Mechanic Studios building, River Arts District. Info: 273-3332.
