With eight cases of the measles confirmed to date, officials from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services announced they are working with local health departments to investigate and control an outbreak. Though nothing can get rid of a measles infection, health officials say it can be prevented by the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine.
The state Senate voted 29-19 to override a veto surrounding a bill related to abortion restrictions. Now, women seeking an abortion in North Carolina will have to wait 24 hours and receive specialized counseling before the procedure can occur. Before today's vote, North Carolina had been one of 16 states that didn't require counseling before an abortion.
