Busking for Brother Wolf

We get to listen to a lot of music while we’re working here at MX.  Live music comes drifting through the front windows of our offices in the Miles Building, adjacent to the Flat Iron sculpture on Wall Street.  There’s almost always someone busking down there – but yesterday’s theme was refreshingly different.

Three girls were on a self-imposed mission to raise funds for Brother Wolf, the local no-kill animal shelter, and one of them – Audrey Kayser, age 10 – was playing tune after tune on her violin to attract passers-by to take a look at their display, have a drink of lemonade, and make a donation.  Audrey’s sister Katie, age 11, and friend Maggie Kimmett, 10, visiting from Ohio, provided additional outreach and the trio had nearly filled their large cash collection jar for Brother Wolf by the time we came down to take their picture.

Brother Wolf is working “to build a new consensus” in animal population control, according to its website, “which rejects killing as a method for achieving results.” The non-profit accepts cash donations as well as items from their wish list, including wet and dry dog food, dog toys and leashes, hand sanitizer, and cleaning supplies such as paper towels, bleach, and commercial disinfectant.

Yes, quite refreshing—creativity, talent, work ethic, and cause.

Good on them!
