The connection to Montruis comes from the episcopalian diocese. the young Maggie would not let Montruis go, pushing the program #avlhaiti
We are not taking an entirely American view, we will see how they want to do it #avlhaiti
Not really, part of the training is to teach families how to graze the goats, and they will also lease pasture land #avlhaiti
Will feeding the goats be difficult ? #avlhaiti
"Mission Manna is fiercely independent and always will be. We grassroots fundraise like there is not tomorrow - then, spend it" #avlhaiti
However, Clinton and Bush are also trying to modernize the mango industry in Haiti, making them world exporters #avlhaiti

but doesn't help much #avlhaiti
France helps Haiti, which was colonized by France, but not much, just forgave their debt from their freedom after the quake #avlhaiti
While ex-patriots give money, they don't chose to go back to Haiti and work there, because there are no jobs #avlhaiti
There is a tier system, the bourgeoisie control the government and the money #avlhaiti
A lot of money flows back - (actually 1/3 of Haiti's economy comes from family living oversees) #avlhaiti
Q: what has been the rule of the ex-patriots ? #avlhaiti
Remember that Haiti is deforested, which makes farming difficult if not impossible #avlhaiti
Instead of giving stuff, the US needs to create jobs #avlhaiti
The US is not perfect, but we are trying, often its a double edged sword #avlhaiti
Over 80% of secondary schools were destroyed, and over 25,000 businesses #avlhaiti
Remember, there is NO public education in Haiti #avlhaiti

Mission Manna's biggest fundraiser is the Grace Episcopalian Pumpkin Patch, which they do every year #avlhaiti
"Going to the same places, seeing the same kids year after year, its measurable results" Cohen #avlhaiti
Cohen's favorite part of Mission Manna is the measurable results, like measuring the growth of a child year after year #avlhaiti
Mission Manna's "Go Project" is Haitians taking care of Haitians, they dont want to be saviors #avlhaiti
They said to him, "Daddy, we could have just as easily been born Haitian. And wouldn't you want someone to take care of us?" #avlhaiti
Cohen also almost didn't return to Haiti after his first trip, his daughters changed his mind #avlhaiti
Last speaker is Glenn Cohen, who lived in Asheville for 14 years and is a member of Grace Episcopalian Church #avlhaiti

"Somewhere in our aging and as we grow, we have to see, and help other see, beyond our own driveways" #avlhaiti

On one of her first trips she worked as a dewormer - "one of the most disgusting jobs in the universe" Sharon #avlhaiti
Often seeing 500 patients a day, Mission Manna doctors work all day without taking a break #avlhaiti
"It is hard to get used to seeing lines of parents with their children waiting all day long just to see the "blanc" doctors #avlhaiti
"I've traveled extensively in my life, I don't mind having to squat to take a pee" Sharon #avlhaiti
Instead, she took it as a personal challenge to go to Haiti #avlhaiti
Sharon Roberts - "correction, I am a genetic councilor" which has nothing to do with her work in Haiti #avlhaiti
The program will grow as Haitians who receive goats give one back from each litter to Mission Manna to redistribute #avlhaiti
Mixed with the akamile, this will give a complete nutritional supplement #avlhaiti
Haitians dont currently drink goat milk, something Mission Manna hopes to change #avlhaiti
The Haitians will get trained on how to take care of their goats, which will reproduce and spread through the community #avlhaiti
Looked extensively at the way Heiffer runs their projects, Mission Manna just bought 17 female goats for Haiti #avlhaiti

It’s Good to see the reaction to this ongoing event in Haiti where today it’s a hot issue, and just like 90,miles north of Haiti there is another ongoing event in the Gulf-Area.
It will take years to put things back in place.
And while it still hot,I would like to Thank all of Local Business/ Artist/Groups for not overlooking this issue at hand.
So feel free to help/sponsor a event that is willing to help the people of Haiti.

Hello my name is Brian Walker, and you have no idea who I am, but I have been reading the stories that you all do to help our world. I am truly and deeply inspired. I was emailing you in regards to ask if you could help me out with something, but if you cannot I completely understand.

From July 18 to July 24, 2010, God has offered me the chance to go to Haiti with my youth group from Burnt Hickory Church of Christ. This 7-day mission trip will involve work projects, earthquake clean-up, and reaching
out and spreading gospel to the Haitian people while also learning more about the people there and their culture. The exciting part is that you will be able to share in this compassion in several ways. First, you can help pray for me and my fellow youth group. We will need prayers that God will prepare us for our visit and bless our efforts as we minister to the people of Haiti. We will also need prayers that our financial needs will be met. At this time, we need to raise $1,000 each to attend this trip, and that is quite a challenge!

Another way you can be involved is to help provide that financial support. Would you consider supporting me with a donation? If you feel led to contribute, I will need to raise all my funds by July 10 in order to pay for airline tickets and other items. Please make checks payable to Burnt Hickory Church of Christ. Whether you feel led to contribute financially, through prayer, or both, all of your support is greatly appreciated! I look forward to doing God’s work in Haiti and letting you know all about how God has worked through this team when I return in July.

God Bless,
Brian M. Walker
