Local filmmaker Linda McLean will debut her eight-minute minidocumentary Wild and Free in a special event on Saturday, May 10, at Jubilee! Community in Asheville.
The film, about the rehabilitation of a screech owl named “Pinkey” by storyteller Clyde Hollifield, showed as a rough-cut at the Asheville Film Festival last November, and audiences will now get a chance to see the finished version.

The event will also feature animals from the WNC Nature Center, screech owls from the Wild for Life animal-rehab organization, musical performances, Hollifield himself and Cherokee/Choctaw storyteller Grandmother Red Leaf
Proceeds will benefit Little Pearls, the media nonprofit that produced the movie and focuses on creating small, inspiring films. The group says it plans a series of similar works, to be called “Animal Pearls.”
The event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at Jubilee! (46 Wall St.) Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children. Visit http://www.littlepearls.org for more information.
