If you feel that developers have too much power in Asheville, then I urge you to vote for City Council candidate Elaine Lite (http://www.electelaine.org). If you want to know for certain that you have a representative on Council who will vote for clean water, local businesses, neighborhood values, strict enforcement of our development rules and affordable housing for the working class, then elect Elaine.
Elaine Lite is the only candidate who advocates slow growth. She’s been endorsed by the Sierra Club, Western North Carolina Mountain Green Party and Asheville Democracy for America.
Over the years, she has studied the local policy-making process and has attended countless public meetings, not only City Council but the planning board and Technical Review Committee. In other words, she’s going into this race with a working knowledge of local government.
Elaine Lite is a woman of great courage, boundless humor and optimism. She’s known and loved as the publisher of Critter magazine and as a long-time advocate of animal rights. She’s what we mountain natives call “real people”—down-to-earth, compassionate and warm. She’s not your average politician, because she’s not afraid to say that she’s a certified tree-hugger and proud of it. Elaine Lite played a pivotal role in exposing the lack of sunshine surrounding the Progress Energy lease and worked tirelessly to send their proposal for an oil-based power plant in Woodfin packing.
I’ve known Elaine Lite through our work in Mountain Voices Alliance, and I am continually amazed by her work ethic and her willingness to help other people. She is my hero, and I’m thankful that a progressive of her caliber is willing to run for office.
Go, Elaine, go! Elect Elaine.
