Deer hunters take note: The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will hold a public hearing for comments on proposed changes to a variety of hunting, fishing and trapping regulations at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Southwestern Community College in Sylva.

Some items being considered by the commission: eliminating the daily bag limit for deer; establishing a “uniform” deer season that’s in line with Yancey, McDowell Rutherford and counties east; allowing hunters on public game lands to use archery equipment during the muzzle-loading firearms season (currently, archery is limited to private lands); and tagging big game onsite.

Some changes to fishing regulations are also under consideration, such as managing streams in the Green River game lands of Polk and Henderson counties as Wild Trout Waters, with the exception of the hatchery.

For a full list of proposed rules and public-hearing schedules for the state, visit the commission’s Web site at http://www.ncwildlife.org. At that site, there’s a link for making comments (click on the “Submit Comments Online”). You may also mail to Public Comments, 1701 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C. 27699-1701.
