Buncombe County school board election protest

This document is the formal protest filed by Ben “Chip” Craig with the Buncombe County Board of Elections on Nov. 7, 2008. In his protest, Craig asks that he be declared the winner of the election to represent the Owen school district on the Buncombe County Board of Education.

Craig garnered 14,417 votes in the Nov. 4 election, second to candidate Mark Crawford, who collected 18,360 votes. Crawford announced in October that he was formally withdrawing from the race. But after learning that he had won the race on election night, he decided he would take his seat on the school board.
