As summer fast approaches, the YMCA of Western North Carolina reminds parents that camping is a unique and invaluable experience. Summer is a critical out-of-school time when children and teens can benefit from enriched learning, new experiences and making new friendships and memories that can last a lifetime.
The YMCA of Western North Carolina is excited to offer such programming to keep children active and engaged over the summer months. In collaboration with Buncombe County, the Discovery, Explorer, and Kiddie Camps will serve breakfast and lunch as well as two additional snacks throughout the day, all of which is included in the weekly price! The Y is also teaming up with The Arc of North Carolina to provide camp opportunities to children with intellectual and developmental disabilities through the Every Child program at Hominy Valley Elementary.
A leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y works to help children discover their full potential by providing opportunities to learn and grow. With a focus on a traditional summer camp experience, campers will be able to participate in archery, hiking, sports, camp crafts, drama, science, rocketry, campouts, cookouts, swimming and much more. This year the Y is excited to offer many different options for youth all around the area:
Discovery Camps: Ranging from rising 1st graders to 12 years old, Discovery Camps will be held at Bell, Black Mountain Primary, Estes, and Hominy Valley schools. These camps will have an emphasis field trips and hiking!
Explorer Camp: Rising 1st graders to 12 years old are invited to the Y’s Beaverdam Youth Center for a camp focusing on teambuilding experiences and environmental/outdoor adventures!
Kiddie Camp: A camp offered exclusively for 4 and 5 year olds with developmentally appropriate camp activities and field trips, Kiddie Camp is designed for our youngest campers!
Henderson County Y Day Camp: For rising 1st graders to 12 years old, this camp will be offered at the Stoney Mountain Center in Hendersonville!
Swim Camp: For the intermediate to advanced youth swimmers ages 8 to 12. Swim Campers will sharpen their skills and learn lifeguarding basics. This can also be done in conjunction with the Discovery Camp at Bell Elementary and Explorer Camp at Beaverdam for a full day of fun!
To ensure that every child and teen has the chance to go to camp, the Y offers financial assistance to those in need. If you would like to learn more about camp opportunities, visit our website at www.ymcawnc.org or contact our Child Care Services office at 828-210-CARE (2273).
